Hey guys, the Cherry stabilizers on my new Ducky keyboard make the keys feel mushy and kind of ruin the typing experience for me. But I also didn't really like the MX browns because they felt grainy, so I was planning on getting another Ducky in MX reds. My question is if the stabilizers feel as stiff/mushy on reds as they do on browns. Thanks.

cherry stabs will feel "mushier" than the costar style.. However, it's moddable to improve feel.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

On my Ducky Shine II Cherry Reds they feel fine.  I've felt costar stabs, which are nice too, but with some lube you should be fine.  Lube does make a huge difference, I suggest going with a thicker synthetic such as Krytox or Superlube and it should really improve.  I'll admit I didn't like my space bar as much until I lubed it, and now it feels much different. Honestly, how much time do you spend using the stabilized keys anyway, I just don't feel like it's a huge deal, minus the space bar and possibly the shift key.

I'm not sure whether the Ducky Shine 2 has a different style of Cherry stabilizers or not (they do look different than standard), but they do not feel "mushy" to me in the least. If any thing I prefer them to Costar's, the modded Costar stabs (thicker wire with thinner retainers for less play) in my older PLU just don't feel as "solid" as the Cherry stabs in my Shine 2.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I'll just try to get used to the Cherry stabilizers. The Ducky leds can't be beat.

I don't know.  A lot of people really like the Costar tabs, but I was typing on my friends Das Keyboard and it has Costar tabs with Browns, and I didn't like it as much.  Didn't feel that solid to me for some reason.   Maybe it's the plate that Ducky mounts it on, it seemed to be pretty dang solid when I disassembled my keyboard last time.  And their PCB is really sick too, all red.

Make sure your friend has the older batch Das Keyboard.  The newer ones don't use costar stabilizers.

I don't know...he said he bought it brand new off of amazon a couple of months ago.  His stabilizers had this clicky rattly sound.  It didn't sound super solid...kind of like laptop key stabs...I don't know, just not my thing I guess.
