Costar Stabilizer Wire Grinds Inside of Keycap
« on: Tue, 19 March 2013, 22:36:26 »
Anyone ever had this happen to them?  This happened once a long time ago when I swap my keycap from Das with my Filco for fun.  But then I couldn't figure out why there is resistance when I press my enter key all the way down.  I swap the keycap back soon after.

Though recently I purchased a set of imsto thick PBT, then this problem happened again, so I investigated for 2 nights and finally figured out.  It turns out that the when I fully depress the key, the stabilizer wire will swing in an arc and that "arc" will pass by the inside of the keycap and grinds it a little and create resistance.

So I took a swiss army knife and shave off the inside a little also I swap the stabilizer wire with another key and now it finally work properly.  This picture is just for example, the key that had the issue is the enter key, somehow all the other keys seems to work ok.

Anyone else experience this before?

they're not molded perfectly, some cool too rapidly or unevenly, and shrink too much

Ahhhh this might explains it, because I'll admit it was only about 0.5 mm off.  So I just took a knife and shaved off a little then it works fine.

BTW, where did you get those blank thick whites...

And would you describe them close to "paper-white (beige-esk)" or "chalk(grey shift)" or "total beige" or "snow-white (blue/purple shift)"

Got them from this group buy.  I literally just got it 2 days ago.  It was a long 4-5 month wait but now I finally have it  :D

As for the colour, I'd say it's probably "chalk" since it feels more like cold light grey.  In contrast Filco's case feel a bit like reddish beige.  So the keyboard case feel kind of warm while the keycaps feel kinda of cold.

I think imsto might have extras that you should try to contact him and ask lol.

Yes, I have had this issue once or twice with Cherry DS keys.  Just need to file the inner corner down a bit and all is well.

lol damn it I'm thinking to get cherry doubt shot next, but I guess maybe all cherry profile keycaps will have that problem  >_____>

Sight I guess costar stabilizers are more designed for OEM height.  At least it's an easy fix.
