no but there's bound to be a degree of microbes in containers that you'd put this clean water in..

There are so many confounding variables to this question I admit..

was the container dried prior to use for water containment

was it washed with antibacterial soap..

So..  I guess most basically..

How long will boiled water keep, in a non sterilized but tap water washed container...

Google says that from a baby formula perspective that it should be used within 24 hours. But my very vague understanding of bio tells me that there is probably not a true time frame and that water can be contaminated relatively quickly in the right environment.

I hope your not seeking baby advice on a keyboard website

Hahaha well in that case, if you put your boiled water into a container that has not been sterilised there is a chance of contamination straight away.

The best thing to do is to place your container (glass) in an oven and cook it on somewhere between 150 and 200 C. for approx 30 min cant exactly remember. I believe if you do all that with proper precautions and lid the glass bottle it should be good for longer than you would care to drink after it had sat on your bench.

I believe if you use plastic, something like chemical seepage happens and you should not drink definitely after a few years (especially if exposed to sun).

Definitely don’t bake your plastic containers.

I just read up on the canning stuff as you've suggested...

How does putting the jar in the pressure cooker work ?

wouldn't the jars blow up if the lids are on ? and the liquid is boiling inside the jars ?

I didn't say anything about canning, I'm talkiing about home bio labs. i believe that's how they create a sterile environment for their cultures and such.

'tap water' literally says nothing about the quality of the water

but really, you should be more worried about chemicals in the water rather than bacteria.

Get some iodine.  It's cheap and available at most camping stores.  A few drops (read the instructions) will kill the nasties.

There are stringent controls on the impurity levels on municipal water. Incidentally, for quite some time there were significantly looser controls on the impurity levels of commercial (bottled) water, though I think that has since changed.

Those tests don't always hold by the time the water hits your faucet though..

gotta get a water testing kit.

Fill a tin can with water. Seal the can. Boil the can. Let can cool. The can's contents stays fresh until you open it.

Boiling water in any metal container makes the water taste like metal. Do you live in a 3rd world country? Why do you need to boil your drinking water?

I don't want to drink bottle water no more due to the plastic issue, and the cost cutting type of management in play.  especially on these low cost items.

Why not buy a pitcher filter then? You are spending more in energy costs boiling tap water then the cost of a filter every 6 months. Maybe even more than a delivers service like Deep Rock.

if you boil the water and store it in canning jars (boiling the water with the jars) it can be kept for years.

I've been reading this thread since you created it just for fun, and I still don't understand why the heck you need to boil your water.

It's quite hard to make optical grade ice, but once you have it down, you can construct a robot to make for you some impressive (and dangerous) optics.

you gotta walk the water twice a day for 2 hours each trip to keep it fresh and in shape, then you need to feed it regularly (you'll know when he/she is hungry), mostly beef and salt cubes, maybe a bowl of bovril
then you need to groom it, for that use half a bottle of soap and a trusty dog hair brush, and please give your water lots of attention
and give him/her a cage and pillow to sleep on

I will literally **** you raw paicrai, I hope you're legal by the time I meet you.
