CONUS?
« on: Mon, 30 September 2013, 19:42:39 »
I see this all over the place.

I am guessing this means Continental US. Is that correct?

Yes.

Use google to confirm.

The internet doesn't change much from place to place

What's the diff between NA and CONUS?

The PO changed their rules so that "international" means just that, and that the 50 mile trip from Buffalo, New York to Toronto costs almost as much as sending it to you in England.

Perhaps you have noticed that particular irritation concerning US and Canadian shippers above the usual din of complaints about the cost of international shipping.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

I'd not, but then I hardly ever look in the classifieds section these days anyway

And since we are at it, today I learned that GLWS is good luck with sale not Game for Windows Live or something. Ha ha.

And  that's exactly what it is, same as continental united states, it's the 48 united states that all touch each other!

Actually, if you use something like the Priority game board boxes, they always go air mail to Alaska and Hawaii. I sent a Model M via Priority Mail from Atlanta, GA to Alaska a while back, and it was delivered in less than 72 hours from when I handed it off, for $17!

That is why I always say "domestic shipping"

Are the forum abbv's in the wiki? I haven't looked, but have noticed they're thicker here than other places I frequent.
GH = GeekHack, a self-referential TLA (CTLA? 'constrained three-letter acronym' ...)
MD = massdrop, although this is noticeably less common than
DT = Deskthority.net (oooh! the competition!)
TKL / WKL  = Tenkeyless / win(dows)keyless
GB = group-buy (agreeing to buy a bunch of one thing to get a volume discount)
IC = interest check (should anybody bother trying to organize a GB?)

Perhaps whenever this new wiki that's being done by the KOTF is done they can add those.

Do you guys really think I should add them? I can add them to the Simple Questions OP right now but it took me around 10 minutes of lurking to figure the acronyms out. I don't mind doing it, just wondering if people really want that info somewhere.

These type of threads have been tried..

But the information is too much "wall-of-text"  for the short attention span crowd coming outta this Youtube Generation.

We need people to contribute to a primer then. The goal of the of the Keepers is to help aggregate and create some new info. There's no way the four of us could possibly keep up with all the requests we'll be getting.

I think TheSoulhunter has such a guide started. When he posts it we (as in the GH community) could add to it.

It'll be there, but the n00bs won't read it,  and will post with an answer question anyway..

DT = Delirium tremens, shakes due to withdrawal from alcohol. Also, a name of a beer, which would help those shakes

Too lazy to work on the rest.

I like the video idea.  Would get more people up to speed quicker.

I think the main reason why CONUS was confusing at first is because it usually sounds like a shipping type or courier, not a region.  EG: "Will only ship CONUS"

NA includes one normal country.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I live in Vancouver, and it rains all day. It was still ~15°C during June this year... Then we get 30+ days of straight sunshine during July, breaking a local record. And now we're in the rainy season til May 2014 :(

The CONUS stuff mainly deals with the continental US for the benefits of cheaper shipping. Also its just the US, so no customs

While we're talking about acronyms and such, what's a "Click/Clack"? I assume it's one of those 3d skulls novelty keycaps? What makes them $200+? Or does it refer to any type of novelty cap?

Click clacks are novelty caps. They refer to the caps made by one person. They are 200 due to rarity
