My First Mechanical Keyboard , almost decided !!!
« on: Thu, 31 October 2013, 00:43:59 »
So after reading a lot here I have narrowed it down to:

Filco Majestouch 2 104
WASD V2 104

I really like the WASD but I want MX blue and they are out of stock  :'(
They are both ABS though. Is it worth it to replace the keycaps ? All the keycaps replacements I have seen are ABS as well...
Which keyboard is the heavier / steadier / better built ?

Decisions decisions....
I think I prefer the WASD by a hair - but i cant order it. aaaargh.
I wish there were a mechanical store where you could try them all side by side, instead of reading or relying on youtube reviews :)

I'd just go for the cheaper one between those 2
Keyboards: Topre Realforce 87UW 55g x 2
Mice: Zowie EC1 eVo CL x 2
Mousepads: Artisan Hien VE x 2, Razer Mantis Speed

What makes you prefer the WASD over a Filco? Filcos are a sturdy and reliable board, although the cable isn't detachable.

If you go with WASD you can use the editor to customize your keys or buy a new set from the following if you go with with Filco.

If you are going to get full size 104, I'd highly suggest you get the Ducky DK9008G2 if you can find it.

(out of stock here, but FYI)
http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=473

It comes with PBT dyesub keycap which a lot of people here pay $100 for a set alone.

Check the review here, the keycap is THICK!

I vote for WASD because, I have one - but I don't have a Filco so my vote is bias.

I love the ducky but availability is sucky. :)

Same for Filco :( you can get one shipped from Japan at a (big) premium I found on amazon.
I need a 104 black to use at work replacing the $5 hp we have (conservative place) so the year of the snake is not an option...

WASD is out of cherry blues :(

It's really about logistics now. I am eager to get anyone of these at this point.

I was even considering a real force but also out of stock on EK.

Damn it. Why so hard ?!?

Yeah, I think ducky has to step up its distribution channel in US, it has zero to little presence in major online stores and none in BM.

I think the only reason to get WASD is to customize the keycaps (or naked) and if your work place is conservative there is no real advantage to get WASD since it has run of the mill ABS keycaps.

This isn't a huge issue.....  Resell value of boards is there...

Worst case you take a 20% hit on one of the boards selling it here oh GH used..

Go Filco Majestouch 2 104, better build quality. I have the blue switches on this and it's a marvel to type on.

ok you guys.
now i WANT the ducky DK9008G2 PRO

i was wondering if the RealForce keys have the same texture/grain as the HHKB, which i did not really care for.

oh but it does not matter... I WANT the ducky.
I have ordered the MX sampler because listening to youtube just does do it for me and i am torn between MX blue and brown

Now all is left is source one:
found on ebay :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-DUCKY-DK9008G2-Pro-ABS-Mechanical-Keyboard-Cherry-MX-Brown-Switch-ASWD-LED-/190916312566?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item2c737fbdf6

but is showing as 'ABS', which is confusing since Ducky site only lists them as PCB...

http://www.duckychannel.com.tw/en/DK9008_G2Pro.html

Is ebay a safe/reliable place for getting keyboards outside of CONUS ?

The ebay seller is right, that one is ABS.

For some reason when ducky released that dye sub thick PBT special edition DUCKY-DK9008G2-Pro, they didn't bother to use a different model number.

I bet the SKU on the bar code is different though.

This Ducky DK9008G2 PRO Dark Grey Version is growing on me

Looks like the dye subs have different LEDs from the regular version.
of course they all have the same DK9008G2 PRO reference...  ;D

There does not seem to be factory white-letters-on-black keysets listed anywhere...

Oh well... Now i have to wait for my MX sampler and pray that they do not run out of stock...
