cod ghosts on pc
« on: Mon, 04 November 2013, 11:37:44 »
if you were on the fence, dont get it, not yet anyway, no FOV slider, capped framerate at 90, poor optimization and some really really insane mouse acceleration that you cant turn off, totally unplayable in its current state

CoD has always been like that, although with MW2(I think) there were no major mouse issues and the devs OK'd a third party tool that let you adjust FOV. MW3 had ****ty mouse problems though.

Nah, MW2 was the last one worth playing imo. 4 was the last actually good game in the series, but as **** as MW2 was it was still a load of fun. Treyarch never managed to properly capture the fun of CoD for me.

While I do prefer CS, the two games play very differently. CS requires you to basically tryhard all the time, unless you play it so damn much it becomes a walk in the park. CoD games have always been far more relaxing due to all the crap in it that both lowers the skill ceiling and does its best to reduce the skill gap, so you can do well in CoD without putting in the amount of effort you'd need to maybe do ok in CS.

I do agree, but CS can be really casual with all the different mods (zombies, gun game, surf etc.)

Yeah, that's too high.  Should be capped at 60.

Some people round here like their frame rate much higher than 90, its a little daft, the whole idea of PC gaming is built around different specs, for different systems. Cap consoles, they're all the same. Why cap someone who has invested in a good machine and can destroy games like Call Of Duty: Dogs.

Still waiting on css promod :'(
Also cod5 was my favorite. More the Multiplayer than the Zombies, maybe it was because everyone used the same weapons everyone was equal. ~(Communist thoughts)~

Wish I had a computer that could do 90fps :(
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

this is probably something they'll fix...

and if you're playing competitively... 90fps should be no problem to achieve, since competitive play means playing on Native resolution with all the graphics settings as LOW AS POSSIBLE..

on ATI, you can also use Radeon Pro to make the graphics SUCK even worse... to get super-rock-solid-performance.... and responsiveness....

I just figure if you're going to invest so much time into a game, you might as well pick one that's somewhat balanced and where skill matters more than what weapon you pick.

Although I will admit the game itself isn't all that important for competitive play, the key part is devs actually backing their game and the tournaments finding capable casters, otherwise there is no competitive scene and the game sorta dies(looking at you Hi-Rez).

Glad I stopped playing that ruined franchise.

It's not ruined.  It's good for what it is.  It's a fast paced multiplayer run-'n'-gun.  I like the weapon customization unlocks.

Can't even compare it to Battlefield.  Battlefield is a slower paced more tactical game with vehicles and huge maps.  People try because they keep releasing them around the same time.

lol it's not THAT bad, you should stop playing those ARAMs though, you still gotta learn2rift. If it seriously bothers you, you should try jungling, all you got ta do is walk in and make plays , no minons to take your CS. Run AD mark runes on all your pages to help you farm better, and take the AD masteries as well. Since you're not level 30 you shouldn't even have to worry about farming because everyone is still terrible at it, just focus on learning how to snowball by out-trading, roaming, etc.

But about CoD, the weak PC competitive scene is because games like TF2 and Counterstrike have been more suited for competitive play, whereas competitive CoD play on PC has been dying since CoD4. It's mostly because the game is no longer catered to what the PC community is looking for, even though there have been attempts like with the great shoutcasting tool in BO2. CoD has been outclassed for many years now on PC by other shooters, in both casual and competitive play. This doesn't exist on console though, so CoD has developed quite a unique competitive scene there. It still is an unrivaled scene on console, with Battlefield mostly for casual play and pub-stomping at most.

The FPS scene is still a joke compared to something like SC2, and SC2 isn't really that big when compared to LoL and Dota2.
What SC2, LoL and Dota(at least to a certain extent) have managed to do is make it a spectator sport, whereas things like the TF2 scene is only interesting for the few who play it competitively, and Valve have been too busy pushing Dota2 to get their FPS games more into the spotlight.
CoD is actually not a bad candidate for getting competitive FPS out there, since so many people are familiar with it and ActiBlizz having cash to back it up. Even if most of the pro PC FPS players will prefer games like Quake Live and CS they still have to go where the prize money is.

Sigh... Yet another game ruined by console madness... It all started with the original Halo which was being developed for PC and was looking really awesome. They even used it to advertise the nVidia GTS 2 graphics chip!

Notice the quote "This is the future of gaming". How I wish they would have been right about that.

MS bought the whole damn company and forced them to redevelop it for XBox. Started trend of ****ty ported console games and delayed the release of the game on PC by a loooong time.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

To be fair though, Halo did a fantastic job of adapting the FPS for consoles, and if the gaming world had just understood that that was why it was popular then we'd have no problems. But no, everyone figured "oh, Halo is popular, let's do what they do" and started using the two-weapon system etc. in PC games.
