your next mission, if you choose to accept it, is to make this and not burn it in the process.

No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

Ever made noodles?  Try it.  It's even harder than rice.

Just the ones you put into boiling water for 3 minutes!

Rice vs Noodles?

Noodles >> Rice

Ever made noodles?  Try it.  It's even harder than rice.

Just the ones you put into boiling water for 3 minutes!

Well that's pretty much all noodles.  :P  But that's also how you make rice, right?  I just think there's more that can go wrong with noodles, so it's "harder".  :P

As a yellow person.. I've made rice in a pot for a whole month in college. before the rice cooker went on sale on BF for $5. and now I know why people don't do this anymore..  It's just so easy to burn the bottom.

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Ricemaking for dummies...

1. Warm water to a boiling in a large pot.
2. Put 1/3rd rice in it.
3. get a child beer, slowly drink it.
4. When half drunk check the rice. If less water put the remaining beer and open another child one.
5. When done drinking take the boiled rice with remaining water.
6. Strain it with a strainer, cloth, underwear... whatever else you got, put your own imagination to work.
7. Eat with salted butter/chicken/whatever else you got.

Don't switch steps else you will end up in the hospital or have to eat samich  :)

4. It's going to take more than one beer to get half drunk!

6. Underwear should be removed first, depending on how drunk you are?

As an authentic Asian, I have to say that cooking rice in a pot in much more for street cred rather than functionality. A rice cooker is much much more efficient and you are less likely to mess up using one. I commend you on learning the art of pot cooking rice but it is an outdated art better suited for those who still study sword fighting and karate.

Yeah I'd have to agree. I have cooked rice before and its always using a rice cooker. Doesn't require you to be standing there and stirring it to keep from burning. Kudos to lcs for doing it old school though.

Personally faced with the prospect of cooking rice, I always pick cup noodles if possible.

PS: Who would be an non authentic asian?

Ah yes, Sai, is that a photo of Burmese standards of rice cooking?

 ;D

If you guys ever go camping, try cooking rice in the middle of the forest, using sticks for the fire and stones for supporting the pot. I've made chicken rice successfully that way. Even managed to source the pandan leaves (for the rice) from a nearby bush. Regrettably, I confess that the chicken was market chicken and the ginger came from the same market. But for dessert we had sweet potatoes, and these were dug up by a smart kid who recognized the leaves.

for a second i thought this thread was by tp4
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

-Ray Bradbury
