Just got a Pexon Cable in the mail

I just got the filco detachable pexon cable in the mail that I ordered a while back. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to use it, though. Here's a picture of it plugged in. http://i.imgur.com/jJwbEAy.jpg

As you can see, the cable doesn't plug in flush, or even close to it. That and the female end is sticking out of its plastic housing. Is that how its supposed to be? I'm not really sure if I'm a fan of the aesthetics. I love the usb cable, but I'm not sure if I'm partial to the detachable cord. I may send it back and ask for a non detachable one, just a cable that goes straight from the keyboard to the pc. Also, I need to get a plastic cable tie and put it around the cable at the keyboard case where it exits (for strain resistance) right?

What do you all think?

mmm... did you try pushing it in harder? gently though...

but.. honestly if the cable lays flat.. you won't even see that gap part.. so.... While i understand that because you paid a premium price for this, it fell short of your expectations...   this is an issue that could be filed under computer-geek-OCD..

Is it easy to open the filco case? I don't want to screw anything up and make it creeky or whatever. I love how sturdy this thing is and how it doesnt "creek" like my blackwidow ultimate did. Is there any chance that opening it up could cause that?

industry secret..

take a credit card, take a knife.. sharpen the corner of the card to 1/2 the thickness of the regular card.. Use that corner to initiate the opening of the case.

DO THE FRONT of the filco first.. NOT the back.. front, where the logo is on the right.

You might ask and see if he can swap the connectors to something that would look a little more flush and uniform as well.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do. What do you all think about the issues with opening the keyboard? Can opening it create any problems? Also, you said open it from the front first but there's no place to do that from. You have to flip it over to stick something in there.

I don't know, I think I may return it for the non detachable. That's actually what I was going to do initially but I made a post on the forum and everyone recommended the detachable! Lol.

I'm trying to get the white piece out of the pcb and cant. I don't want to pull too hard. Any ideas?

Okay! I was able to get the cable out, but now I'm having a different issue. I've literally reseeded this new one nearly 10 times now and it finally just now worked. I noticed on the brown wire there was a little bit of tin foil showing (the wire going into the white plastic piece). There wasn't any tin foil showing on any of the other wires, and after not working half a dozen times when I plugged it in, I tried to take tweezers and push the black wire up into the white housing. I was able to get it up in there, as it slid in like it seemed it was supposed to, but when I plugged the white piece into the PCB the tin foil shot back out. Anyway, I kept trying to push the wire in while plugged into the PCB but it was still showing. The keyboard is finally working now, which I'm a little nervous about since it wasn't working so many times before. The PC kept saying that the USB device was malfunctioning. What do you all think? Is it going to malfunction in a few minutes again? Or should I be fine now that I got it to work? When the new cable wasn't working I tried the old one and it worked immediately. if that helps any.

Flat head screwdriver? You know that it has to detach so you won't do any pernament damage

It sounds to me like one of the four pins in the plug wasn't connecting with the board probably.  That device malfunctioning notification typically happens when device and pc can't communicate properly.  Typically this means you have a short in your data circuit, but you have power to the board itself. 

If the pin that you had to manually press in separately hasn't removed itself again, I would cut my losses and put it all back together and let it be.

Well I seemed to get it working. I've got the board fully together and it seems to be working just fine. Hopefully it stays this way. Though, after plugging it in for the first time after putting the keyboard back together (and a plastic cable tie tightened @ the end of the cord where it exits the case - pexon said to do that) the computer gave me the malfunctioning message. I unplugged / replugged and it worked. I'll watch it closely and I may contact pexon. Maybe he can send me a new detachable cable if this one continues to have issues. The whole reason I did this is to make traveling to places with it easier. I just wish it had a "real" detachable cable, instead of this little cord sticking out That is literally my only drawback with the filco. I actually wanted the WASD v2 barebones (because it seemed exactly the same as the filco except with a detachable cable) but they were out of stock in brown switches when I was ready to order

EDIT: Well I got everything now plugged in the correct way (before I was plugging into the front of my PC for testing) and the keyboard is properly on the desk. I must say I'm actually pleasantly surprised. The cable doesn't look bad at all. I thought the fact that the mini usb (is it mini or micro?) and the filco cable didn't sit flush would be noticeable and ugly. Instead it actually looks fine. I like how I can now easily unplug it and make room on my desk if I want to watch something on the monitor while eating.

Side note, is it bad to unplug / replug the keyboard while the machine is on? Does it affect anything? It is USB after all, so I assume its fine.

EDIT 2: I just unplugged / replugged and it didn't work. I had to toggle it twice to get the thing to work again. WTF?

EDIT 3: Also, if one of the connectors is bad could it cause performance issues with the keyboard? For whatever reason I feel like its not as responsive, but that may just be in my head. Or is it the case that if something isn't working properly the entire keyboard just won't work?

What so you mean by toggling it twice?

Hi there Keytrun,

let me get the situation sorted for you man, I don't like people getting their cables and not being happy. Firstly, in regards to the terminations not sitting 100% flush. There are no commercially available connector shrouds for Female Mini USB, hence I have to custom fabricate them myself, I bastardize a Micro USB connector, and jiggle it to take a Female Mini USB snug and tight fitting. They do not sit completely flush, note that the female connectors are designed for SMD use so the termination male connector will seat further in. The Female Mini USB termination pokes out the end of the connector, to give a better, stronger fit.

In regards to the connection, if you can, just get a small file, craft knife, screwdriver etc and make sure the pins are fully seated on the Filco housing, during transit, some of the crimps may have been un-seated. A tab of glue on the connectors when fully seated should stop any disconnects.

I've never experienced such an issue.

Tons of keyboard lag comes from the accesssibility options under windows 7..

Make sure to disable all of them.. and your keyboard should feel like your own skin.
