Ah.. thread be damned - let's talk shoes - in my country, almost everyone takes off shoes when in door. We don't use carpet due to the weather here (which is perpetually hot), so most of the houses use marble flooring or some sort of floor tile. We sweep and mop our floors daily. I can't imagine anyone wearing shoes in door. I also can't imagine how people who wear shoes indoor lie on the couch? Do you also lie down to relax with your shoes up on the couch? Wouldn't that make your couch dirty?

I am sure kids lie on their stomach in the carpet when reading or playing. That would make them uncomfortable, wouldn't it?

I also cannot imagine going to the toilet with the shoe. That makes it like going to a cafe or something.

I remember going to a co-worker's house in USA during Christmas a few years back and I find it so uncomfortable. I feel like I am making her house dirty. Of course I asked her before I stepped in and she said it's pretty common here. It's fascinating experience for me.

I don't think you were out of line asking her to wash her hands. I'm a relatively clean person, and don't like people touching my things with greasy hands. It sets a poor example for future hygiene. To me, it is the same as someone leaving trash in my car or not picking up after themselves. Have respect for other people's belongings, that simple.

My girlfriend seems to be well acclimated with my keyboard obsession. For Christmas she got me a Tex Beetle in MX Browns. Through her actions she has seemingly showed support for my keyboard obsession and will now have to face the consequences. No date tonight, we're waiting for the UPS man!

My SO left a pair of headphones out on the table with cables hanging over the edge.  This is a pair of headphones I box up and she's seen me box up time and time again after use.  She paid dearly for her transgressions...

Why do you box them up? Just to stop them getting knocked about or some hygiene reason?
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

I'm curious to know what is you people's reaction when someone wants to press on your Clacks? You know, with their dirty fingers or pizza greased finger? What happens? Did you go NOVA?

I would request anyone wash their hands before touching ANYTHING on my desk. I don't want food and grease all over my stuff.

the worst the kids ever did for me was to remove most of the keycaps on the Model M (anything they could pull out).

And then replace the keycaps. Not in order, of course.

The most ridiculous part? I didn't notice. I don't look down at the keyboard when I type, unless it's a key I don't use often. I think I was looking for a hyphen or equal when I looked down and discovered the swapping.

And if anyone is wondering, kid fingers are small enough to fit the spaces between the keycaps, but adult fingers are not. So it's much easier for the kids to pull out the keycaps, than it is for me to pull them out in order to put them back in order.

I think she blew off not because of the hygiene thing, which is a reasonable request, but because she felt that you cared for the keyboard more than her. It's the impression she gets from your statement.

Good thread.

I don't have much of a story yet but that's because my PC is in a room upstairs and the family hang out downstairs. So no one ever goes into the boring room but there was once my 2 year old thrashed her hands on the keyboard. I cringed hard and had to gently guide her out of the room and distract her with something else. Fortunately the wife was not there.

You don't just let certain headphones sit out in plain view.

I'm not that cruel but she had to learn how to dust out my PC.

I can't stand wearing shoes around the house and cringe at those who do. Also I feel the same way about walking barefoot around the house, just can't get into it. Maybe I don't like feet but it grosses me out seeing bare feet sunk into the carpet. I always wear socks, and keep a pair next to the shower to put on right when I get out. I don't like things sticking to my feet , I have dogs and their hair gets everywhere dispite how hard I clean. Nothing is worse than looking at my feet and seeing random hairs stuck between my toes.

omg yes!! I hate when people wear their shoes in doors and my socks get soaked!!!!!!!

AGREE!!

Also, I love your new avatar. :3

wearing socks around a house? ew.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

+1

But I can see that in cultures where pizza is not a common food, there could be some temptation to use utensils.
yeah, like in italy and stuff.

To be fair, I can understand if you had to eat a chicago deep dish with a fork and knife. I think that's the only time I wouldn't give you **** about it.

Socks after the shower
Maybe get a pair of slippers or those indoor sandals.
