Issue with Ducky Shine 3 MX Reds and mushy keys

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a Ducky Shine 3 with reds, and it's the perfect board with one very important exception: a couple of the large keys, namely the Left Shift, Backspace, and Enter keys, have a very "mushy" feel. The best way I can describe this sensation is it feels like the key is being depressed into wet clay instead of the board; that important tactile sensation of the keycap pressing into the board when bottomed out is much less evident with these keys, though particularly with the left shift key. It also doesn't feel like the keycap depresses all of the way, which is likely the primary reason for its lack of sensation. The right shift key, as a comparison for the left, depresses perfectly, and the bottoming out of the keycap is very tactile.

This lack of tactile sensation on these mushy keys is especially bothersome on linear switches, which rely on that bottoming out feel. I'm gonna look at the switches in more detail later and see if I can figure out what's going on with them, but I thought I'd try asking you guys first; could anyone perhaps help me troubleshoot the issue? Has anyone run into this problem before, and is it an issue that may be exclusive to red switches? I definitely haven't experienced the problem before, including on the exact same Ducky board with browns.

Thanks guys; I'm hoping that this is a problem that I can fix myself with your help, since Tiger Imports demands 15% restocking for RMA's...

I would say its just the stabilizers. It's possible it might get better with usage. There have been a few other reports of similar mushy feelings with the ducky shine 3 stabilizers.

I have a new Ducky Shine Yellow Edition.

The stabilised keys do feel a little mushier, but nothing like trying to push them into wet clay.

I have MX blacks though, so I tend to put a bit more pressure onto the keys to overcome the switch stiffness.

Maybe try removing and replacing the keycaps (carefully, if this is the first time you have done that), make sure they are pressed on all the way, and see if that makes a difference.

If you believe it is defective then there isn't a restocking fee.  Restocking fee is if you want to RETURN it. 

But that said, I'm not sure I'd classify these as defective...I'd try re-seating them...it sounds to me like something is not in alignment (keycaps or stabilizer).

Sorry for the late replies to you guys, but "mushy stabilizers" seems to be the issue. I've reseated the key multiple times to no avail; what else can I do to "fix" the problem?

I still have this on my keyboard, Shine 3 Yellow. One solution is to gently pull out the stabilizers with pliers and clip the ends off, which is supposed to make them feel much better. There should be a thread around here, just take a look.

The true "fix" for this is kind of labor intensive..  it should smooth out a bit more "over time".  so really "dig in" for the time being..

But if you want a FIX...

You gotta take the whole thing apart and shave the stabs down on all sides.
