CM Storm Trigger Z or Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2014
« on: Mon, 09 June 2014, 02:38:20 »
I'm very interested in mechanical keyboard, and I'm going to buy new.
I need a mechanical keyboard with LED, MACRO and a good build quality. And finally, after hours of researching, I found
  • CM Storm Trigger Z Red Switch
  • Razer BlackWidow Ultimate 2014 Green Switch

The look, it seems that BWU has better design, color, etc. But Trigger Z has more tools, and I have some doubt about the Razer keyboard quality.

All of the seller in my place say that new BWU (2014) is different with 2013...Razer made an improvement.

Both of them is satisfied my needs. But I wonder how you guys, who have a lot of experience in using mechkey.
Which one is better? And deserve with the price? In my country (asian), both of them are in same price.

Regards and sorry for my English.

What if my only options are 2 of them. In my city, there is 1-2 stores to sell mechkey, others just craps with some marketing and lies.
BTW are you talking about Tt E-Sport? Not Rt?

My vote is always against Razer.

But you should also look to buy online to increase your range of choices

CM Trigger has far better build quality. Also Razer may not have Cherry MX anymore depending on how old is the stock but MX copy switch as the supposed 'improvement' which is mostly just improvement on profit margin to Razer.

I know you said you need macros, but do you really 'need' them or is it only for convenience.

The reason I ask is because when I first came to the mechanical world, I too was after macros. But after going TKL I find myself needing the smaller form factor so I my mouse is closer to my center. That makes me perform much better than macros.

Since then I've gone down to a 60% and will never look back.

If you discover you don't need macros, I would go with the Ducky Shine 3. It has superb build quality, the backlighting you are looking for, a very clean design, remove able USB cable and a wide selection of different switch options.

If you need the macros, I say wait less than a month for the Corsair K95. It has the macros, an aluminum construction (rare without modding the board and usually expensive) with RGB backlighting all at an affordable price ($185 I think).

Edit: Here is the link to the new K95 I suggest waiting for if you need macros:  http://www.corsair.com/en-us/landing/k95-rgb

Of the two listed, the CM board any day of the week. The CM board uses Cherry MX keyswitches, which have a proven record of strength and durability. The new Razer MX-Compatible switches are marketed as being better for gamers, but I haven't yet heard anyone say they like them better than a comparable Cherry MX switch. It also remains to be seen if the Razer switches will have the durability and longevity of the Cherry switches.

Like others have said, macros are less necessary than you maybe think, and software like autohotkey can largely replace the need for dedicated macro keys.

If you decide to forego macro keys, Ducky makes very good boards.

I recently played a few rounds of  various fighting games on PC..

And I must say...   Cherry switches with the 2mm is not ideal and not a good replacement for the Sanwa buttons...

So for That branch of gaming cherry is decidedly worse... since the kailh switches are just clones of Cherry they'd be equally bad.. FOR fighting - games..

As far as CM  vs Razer.. um.....      Ergodox.......

Brand X  vs Razer. Always choose brand X.  If Micro innovations made a mech, I would buy Micro innovations before I would buy Razer.

tt esports, I was on android tablet that changed it.

If you only had two choices then it would be cm storm trigger z.  The caps on the blackwidow, well I'm not a fan.

Yes,  I really need them. But in my place, there is no Ducky or Corsair. So thanks, I will go for these for my next mechkey.

Yes, again, Ducky is mentioned here. And thank you, for a lot of good information.

Yes, again, Ducky sweet Ducky. I will consider it for my next mechkey.

To all, thanks guys, I read a lot and it seems that Ducky, Filco, Corsair is a better branch than CM and Razerrrrrr the worst key.
I consider to get 1 more for my home PC. And I have to ask you guy again, I will put these branch above in a list :)
Thanks

for mx boards, filco
modded mx boards, get a korean custom
u want backlighting?
pretty sure there's a cm tkl keyboard (qfr tk) or smt with backlighting
full board you could go for ducky.

you want those razer or ttesports certified switches? i'll pm you my paypal, you could throw your money at me (just joking!)

i would recommend a k70, but it has disgusting keycaps and non standard bottom row (the spacebar is IMPOSSIBLE to find)

or as thelonewolf would suggest

I have the Trigger w/ reds, it's pretty good build quality; I wouldn't really worry about it. My only gripe with it is that the USB hub is pretty terrible and doesn't really have the juice to power anything unless you use an optional power supply (does not come with the keyboard). I've had trouble powering even just regular USB memory sticks with the built-in hub.
