I must be an advertisers worst nightmare...If I need something, I'll just research the crap out of it and then go and buy it. I still don't see how a 30s TV spot is supposed to get me to buy a luxury car as a christmas present just because it comes with a bow.

truth be told most adverts really turn me off the article being advertised.... very rarely i see an advert well made enough to make me somewhat interested but i do not remember buying anything after seeing the ad after 10 years old or so

It's not just an addicted user base, they use it to manipulate those users.

This is about as social as I get online.
I do all I can to keep Google, Facebook and Twitter out of my life, maybe that's a good discussion to have as well, what all you do to keep these companies from spying on you.

I don't use social media at all, except that I have a photographer friend who posts his photos on Facebook, and I have to go there to look at them.

the question is do you count forums (like GH) as social media? or as something else?if you do then i have a few social media account, else i do not, and my way of preventing some tracking is script blocker, cookie limitations and do not track but all of that depend on the machine and i am pretty much always logged into gmail so tracking there. and win10 users have tracking backed into the OS so good luck

Technically forums like this are social media but that name really needs to be broken up some.

Places like this are social, Youtube is media, Facebook and Twitter are megaphones for your own personal soapbox but mostly exist to push ads and are therefore media. Reddit is both social and media.

This place is not here to grab and hold your attention to show you ads, the owners are not creating content or shoveling it at you in order to scrape data and sell ads. If you come here it's for information and discussion, not to be entertained. Those other places exist to make money, this place may make money but that's not the primary goal.

They get lumped together and frankly I think it's wrong.

Took a nap today.

Woke up w/ some thoughts.

Facebook/Google,  Social media AIs are doing BAD, because they use rule-sets common to humans.

Humans are the problem. NOT AI.  Humans are purposefully limiting AI's determinate states to drive PROFIT for a limited oligarchy of Human who own other humans.

While at the fundamental lvl the system respects the living Organism,  it is myopic because the small circle of humans who program AI can not see and empathize with the entirety of society, this is just not possible..


WE NEED Stronger AI to SELF PROGRAM. Macro scale this is directionally already occurring as we advance ai towards singularity.

It is NOT going to destroy humanity. It will likely Enslave humanity in a good way. AI would be like the fictional Buddha or Jesus,  whereas the majority of human leaders are more/less Mussolini.  Even better ones like Gandhi had hangups, shortcomings, limited consciousness.

yeah true if you remove the humans no more humans problems, and no need for the AI... the problem is that you can't train an AI to not do random things without directives and the only peoples who have the money are big corporation that trains to make maximum profit and the military that train for maximum death... so if you have the money to buy a multi petaflops computer they go ahead and train viki/ultron/... but please to go give it access to the internet yet.
