Fixin' mah scroll wheel - pics
« on: Fri, 05 September 2014, 18:16:23 »
Scroll wheel died last night

The clear tip gave in and then became lodged in the teal/seafoam piece below. Poked the tip out and applied back to its body with super glue.

I'm letting the piece set and will clean up the excess later. Hoping the bond will be strong enough. ***crosses fingers***

This little fix will put my mouse back in business. I was pretty tough on the wheel unintentionally while putting everything back together. Only to realize I lost a screw! Of course I would... Will get some replacements at work next week

I fixed a laptop when I was 15,  came out with 12 extra screws.. whaeves, kept on chugging. I didn't think screws were important back then

The picture you've supplied reminds me of an older Razer scroll wheel which can still be bought brand new on Ebay here;

Don't be cheap and start using glues to stick plastic together because it will continue to fail on you.  Time to man up and buy the part that matters, when you use that nasty rodent.

If you're incredibly cheap, you can take off your old rubber scroll wheel rim and replace it upon the newer roller shaft;

Wow! Honestly I did not even search for replacement parts.

The mini stress test I put on the scroll wheel mechanism after repair already leads me to think this rig will last a good bit. Hopefully :)

I just MAY buy a replacement of it breaks again. Thank you for the info good sir

Elrick was right! My superglue served merely as a proof of concept but she failed last night during operation

I've ordered another mouse as of last night -- done deal.

That's a real shame because the current crop of mice that are made suffer from poor quality.  It would of been cheaper for you to just replace the scroll wheel on your older Razer rodent.

I've seen guys keep their rodents from 2007 and are happy with using them even today.  Trust me the manufacturers haven't produced anything of supreme quality especially now in 2014.
