3D nand may do something for the consumer once the micron/intel version starts shipping. Much rumors of drastic price reductions and much larger capacity for consumer tier stuff. For Samsung right now, you are correct... it's only good for Samsung since they can get higher yields and increase the profit margins.
I really hope micron/intel can pull it off... I've been waiting a long time for 'affordable' 4TB SSDs.

IDK.... I don't see why Intel/Micron won't keep the profits for themselves.. THey're more buddies than competitors..

The True-Geeks all seem more excited for the 3D stacking going into processors..

This is not fun. I got an 840 EVO not just because of the price but mostly because it had got very good reviews.

It has also got very low power consumption compared to the competition nine months ago, so I suppose that people have bought them specifically for their laptops.

Then I read about Samsung's fab workers dying from cancer after having handled materials without proper safety equipment and Samsung flat out denying that it was their fault.
Never more Samsung anything.

Hahahaha... every large company's like that..

Think of it this way,  large companies influence the welfare of MANY MANY people..

Sacrifice of individual liberties and even an individual life is not at all uncommon.

This is the same principle reflected in large governments.

Principally, as individuals, we adhere to the waste-not policy,  that's because relative to any 1 person, an external lifeform is equivalent.

But relative to a Large structure of lifeforms,   1 individual is NOT significant..   That is why it is in reality OK to kill or let die..

It's unpleasant to think about, YES, it makes me sad as well, but it's an observed certainty, and inescapable..

True but Findecanor has a point when he's saying that this model (840 EVO) was praised and recommended nearly EVERYWHERE.

They almost got me too !

I didn't get the 840evo at the time because the price difference wasn't that large from the pro. I salvaged one later on though.

850pro is prolly the fastest on SATA

Intel is the safest consumer drive.

All Enterprise rated SSDs are solid and of very good quality, so whichever one's cheapest..

Best SSD for laptops is the BX100, given the ultra low power consumption
