Cat threw up....
« on: Fri, 05 June 2015, 16:13:00 »
Now, how do I clear his throat. His breathing sounds like it's obstructed. he won't drink any water to wash it down. I was like a hair ball, and food that hadn't been digested yet.

Call the vet. Most clinics have an after-hours emergency number if they're closed already, or look up the number of a local emergency clinic.

E: Don't let the cat out of your sight. Things are probably okay as long as he's still breathing regularly. Try to keep him calm, if possible. Your vet will be able to give better advice than anyone here, particularly if you're able to give details over the phone. They may want to see the animal before giving detailed advice.

I worked at a vet clinic for 5 years. Laboured breathing isn't the greatest, but it's still breathing.

It's just hair in his throat. That or the fancy feast he threw up.
Going to wait until mom comes home see what she does. But I feel like taking him to the vet at this point...
He also has hiccups at this point...

I don't think cats can cough. Whatever is bothering him, his body is trying to get rid of.
I'm gonna let him wander around outside and eat some grass see if he throws up the rest of what he wants to throw up.
If he doesn't throw up tonight, or manages to get whatever is in his throat out tonight. He's going to the vet tomorrow.

I have a Maine Coon breed cat, thus he's extremely hairy. He throws up all the time, and it's usually not a big deal. Usually it just takes a bit for them to compose themselves afterwards, and there could just be some leftovers hanging around in there. Frankly, it's a good thing he's vomiting up the hair instead of it attempting to pass further through his system. He may be overeating/eating too fast as well, on top of having the hairballs.

I would just look for special food that helps hair balls/digestion. I also keep cat grass in my house for all my cats, which can also help. Doesn't seem like a big deal overall, but if you're concerned (and if you can afford a vet) I would just go to one just in case.
