Any RC Flyers here?
« on: Mon, 28 March 2016, 22:16:18 »
Well, didn't see a thread about this yet, just wondering if there is anyone that does any remote control flying?

I'm just getting into it, and I had my first flight over the weekend. Lots of fun so far, I was just flying a Tek Sumo wing, but I had a blast! I've gotta say though, multicopters are currently what have my interest, so I've got a Blade Inductrix for practice, and I'll be working on building up the quad and tri frames that I have over time, so that I don't spend too much at once.

I started flying years ago, got a trainer plane and trainer... It was fun, but my eyesight (I have terrible depth perception) made it a bit tough. My first time out alone was a field I hadn't flown at before and put it in the dirt due to a down draft, it was nothing serious, but made me take stock after seeing a friend send his through a chainlink fence a week earlier (think paper shredder or confetti machine).

I rarely do things half-assed when it's something I enjoy and so I was working on a full on competition level stunt plane with all cherry picked parts, even with sponsors from rc car racing it was thousand of dollars, when I crashed I realized that with the way I do things (ride bikes, drive rc cars, real cars, stunt kites, etc...) and my eyesight it would only be a matter of time before I augered it in and destroyed it and every other plane I flew. So I sold it and the trainer and went back to rc cars.

I do fly quads occasionally though, they can take more abuse.

Very cool! What kind of cars do you like for rc/real life? (I can't handle rc cars... The transmitter wheels confuse me for some reason...)

As for the confusion, just "place" yourself in the driver seat, you will steer the right way every time.

I raced electric 1/10th scale 2wd truck (stock), 2wd and 4wd buggy (stock and mod, I love mod 4wd), I also did oval car, truck and sprint (stock and mod,) and drags, but quickly lost interest in oval and drags. I also had some onroad cars (Tamiya F1, Offna gas and HPI gas and electric) and monster trucks (T-Maxx and Clodbuster), but never raced any of them.

I still have a few cars, but they all need various bits and pieces and of course batteries. Well, except the T-Maxx, I had put an exotic race motor in it and took it out to some X-Games level bmx jumps and nearly bent it in half... Sooo... That needs some work.  :))

If you want a FUN car, find an old HPI Mini and put hot modified motor and high speed, high torque steering servo in it. I quickly learned, that even with experienced drivers (A.K.A. factory pros), I had to turn down the acceleration before letting them drive it because otherwise, they couldn't (1/12th scale onroad drivers probably could, but not them). It took off like a bat out of hell, was super fast (50mph+) and very, very twitchy. While I prefer offroad, that car was FUN to drive.

I got out of RC,  eventually realizing that it forces me to go outside alot,  AND it was actually quite hard to see the thing I'm flying..

Started My career in 2007 joined a big German company as a sponsored pilot in 2010 and finally went inactive in 2015 when my team leader died in age of 5x. Way to young.
Flew stick mode 2. Mostly planes but still had a T Rex 450 fully equipped.
Today I only fly in the summer holidays in Austria. There is a really nice place on the Gerlizen.
