DIY Landing Pads

I thought I'd try making my own landing pads, and I think the results turned out pretty great:

Bought an EVA foam sheet at an arts and crafts supply place for the princely sum of 2$ CAD. Had to look around a bit, they were next to the construction paper if that's any help.

I have enough material left for a dozen additional keyboards.

All you need: a ruler, scissors, punch, fine tip marker.

Interesting. The hole punch holes aren't way too big?

They're slightly larger than the MX stem, as far as I can tell they rest on the switch's top rather than be stuck on the key like o-rings.

The foam is about 2mm thick, key travel reduction, if any, is too small to measure with anything I've got on hand.

The one lingering question I have is durability, and that'll take some more time before I can know for sure.

I mean....even if they're not that durable and you have to replace them say once a year, it's still worth doing it DIY for $2. Nice job

I did this a while back.. I didn't make a post about it, cuz.. I mean.. it seems so straightforward..

It depends on how soft and stretchy your material is though. that changes with the hole size requirement.

3/16 inch is just a bit smaller than 5mm.. which is what we need.

We've seen Cherry stem is anywhere from 5mm-5.5mm

The 5.2mm and under stems are Significantly SMOOTHER performing keycap wise.
