Wireless gaming keyboard - is it real?
« on: Sun, 05 November 2017, 13:52:05 »
Hi there!

I'm a newbie here so I hope for your help and understanding. Tried to use search function but didn't find much.

So. Currently I'm using Logi k800 for already 3 years and I think it's one of the best wireless keyboards ever made. I'm happy with it 99% of the time but sometimes I'm playing games and facing with the next issue. Since it's not designed for gaming and missing anti-ghosting so when I'm doing very fast keystrokes so some of them are missing. It's not very critical issue but definitely reduces the fun. I was very happy when Logi announced G613 but I became very disappointed after release of its tech specs. It has no backlight and this feature is quite important for me since I'm playing at nights when my wife sleeps and I use small light in order not to disturb her. And it gives light to a small space and not cover keyboard.

I spent quite a lot of time trying to find any wireless gaming keyboard which sits under next parameters:
1) Wireless
2) Backlight
3) Full layout including numpad (or at least 80%). I know there is a lot of keyboards like Drevo Calibur or Anne Pro but they are all in the small factor. I'm looking something similar to the size of k800
4) Any possible brend including Chinese but not frank trash
5) Anti-ghosting
6) Any budget

I spent some time at aliexpress and found some options but all of them has quite a lot of bad reviews. I'm not so pro in ali and other online marketplaces so probably I missed quite a lot of options. So I will be very thankful for your advises. If such keyboard still doesn't exist so I hope that Logi some time will create not first wireless gaming keyboard but it will first wireless gaming keyboard with backlight. Or any other manufacturer will release it in the near future.

Thank you in advance for your input in this thread.

g613 is the only game in town in terms of wireless keyboards, logitech has the best wireless performance of any device out there.

Overall, keyboard is not something that moves around, which is why wireless isn't popular, because it doesn't give you any advantage..

As for lighting on wireless.. if they did that to the same brightness as what's on the fancy rgb boards today, you're looking at a 5watt device.. sooooo.

Vs a mouse, which has to move..

As for high performance wireless keyboard, w/ backlighting. that's really not possible unless it comes with a HUGE battery.

a 3000mah battery is ~10-12watt of power..

if you used that in a back lit board for 2 hours, it'd be almost drained.

So, backlit is unrealistic for a wireless board..  because you'd be charging it ALL THE TIME,  possibly twice a day.

Who would want to charge their keyboard even Once a day..  let along, twice..

To get to a 2 day battery life,  assuming 24 hours of total uptime, you'd need  36000mah..

That's 12x 18650 cells 33% bigger than a big ol' lenovo 9 cell laptop battery.
