I wonder what is the purpose of cavity on plate, specially with the spacebar?

I have exposed switches so dust could get on the PCB

You must be missing stabilizers or screws, or keys because I don't know of any boards that put "air holes" in the steel plate.  Then again, who knows.  What keyboard is this.
