Not a potato fan, it's always just boring mush and the actual potato part tastes like dirt.

That's why you need to **** it up, because it can't stand on it's own as a good food.

Um... well then the same could be said for flour and rice, before you make bread, or fried rice..

Potato is a baseline ingredient..

Rice don't taste like dirt tho

Only good potato is a fried one, or in bread bun form

gnocchi is good too

See, you can take a base ingredient and taste it alone and say "Mmmmmm this corn is delicious, or this is really good cheese, or these tomatoes are really tasty." Have you ever once in your entire life said "Boy the potatoes sure are delicious this year, really came in nicely"

Nope, because they always taste the ****ing exact same. Dirt dwelling ground tumors. No one just eats a potato, that's why people gussy it up with toppings an **** because it's boring and cannot stand on it's own, I'll never eat a potato like a hand fruit and think "My god, this is the best potato I've ever had."

Was looking forward to picture of finished product!

My potato recipe is pretty straight forward and easy.

Buy huge sack of potatoes, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Wash and dice potatos into slices.
Cover baking tray with foil.
Marinate potatoes with salt, pepper, and cayenne peppers, add a little oil and mix all together.
Bake until liking.

Dip with sriracha sauce/ketchup
Such artisan, many caps, very keyboard.

Always searching for Bro caps!

How can you be so sure people do not eat just-potatoes and find them tasty ?

A funny thing happened when we had some friends visiting us in California from Galway. It was early summer and so the range of fresh produce was beyond belief for a couple of Irish kids from the west coast. They ate well, couldn't get over the fact that not only are all the veg available fresh, but can also be found in purple versions.

But after all that, they asked me where they might get some simple potatoes. They were craving some spuds. It turns out you can't ever escape your upbringing.

But about mashed: Yukon gold spuds, roasted, pressed through a food mill or ricer (which keeps the cells more intact to have fluffy taters that won't dry out). More salt than is healthy, cultured butter, a bit of white pepper, heavy cream or creme fraiche.

I dunno, some roasted fingerling potatoes, the ones that come in many colors, they can be quite good with little more than heat, a neutral oil, and a pinch of salt.  Baking potatoes always suck alone, and are probably more what you are referring to, but some of the waxier ones (more often boiled than baked) can stand up better à la carte and are normally used as such in some cuisines.

I  think the potato thing comes down to the fact that people eat for sport these days and the desire for certain taste and scents no longer reflect a function in terms of energy needs..

Back in the day, a potato would be the energy and the Means to --Do something-- whereas today,  food is mostly a given around these parts.
