Tesoro keyboards and their soldering job
« on: Sat, 17 December 2016, 05:25:13 »
I have 3 Tesoro Durandal G1N, which I think they are made by Max keyboards. It's a very good, solid, ridgid, heavy, sturdy keyboard, which also has the advantage of being very cheap (60€, shipping included), and featuring Costar stabs. However, it's really amazing how bad the soldering job has been done. One of my keyboards has never had any problem, but the other two started not registering keys only some weeks after I purchased them. In one of them I've fixed 2 keys; in the other one I've already fixed 3 keys (in less than 6 months). Fortunatelly, I spotted the problem very easily. The solders on the board unstick. You can see it moving when observing the rear part of the board while pressing the malfunctioning key. The solution is also very simple: make a bridge of tin between that soldering point and the one that is next to it (0,5 cm aprox). It takes less than 10 minutes for me to open the case, fix the problem, test it and close it again, but it's definitelly annoying and a shame for a company to release products with such quality issues.

Made by iOne and has their stabs. Bad soldering is nothing new with iOne.

Well, as regards the stabs, I cannot be sure, but they are perfect for me because they work as they should, without any noticiable difference between the sound and feel of the large keys, and not mushy at all.

The G1N is very good keyboard for its price. It has a good metal plate, do not flex at all, braided cable, weights 1.6 kg and the typing is very good on it. The looks are a bit so so (nice plastic finish imitating brushed aluminium, but some gaming details and logos that are a bit ugly).

The only negative aspect is what I said about the soldering issues, and it's a very big con for this keyboard, since it affects its functionality.
