Hoping for a recommendation
« on: Mon, 30 January 2017, 09:59:26 »
Hello,

Have a 6 month old child and need something with browns or similar to HHKB type S noise level wise.  Also would like something backlit as I will need to work in the dark fairly often.  I highly prefer topre 75% hope for some recommendations.

Thanks, definately looking into this.

I would be curious how the topre-clones compare to HHKB if anyone can comment.  Depending how big of a difference there is I may consider a choc mini 84 as well.

Why not a Type S HHKB? Looking for something less expensive? I find reds to be the most acceptable MX switch as a Topre fan, so I hope to see some evidence on if the silent MX reds are quiet enough.

Any tactile switch with zealencios is pretty darned quiet, especially when lubed. Fc660c is quieter than a non s hhkb and can be silenced further. Cheap route is MX browns or clears with o rings.
keyboards.

Why not a Type S HHKB?

Type S is actually what I currently use at home, and HHKB non S at work.  Ultimately I'm looking for something backlit with a similar feel.

Maybe I dont truly need backlit with some additional effort on my part.  I dont need the backlit for work as I do touch type which is why HHKB is fine for work.  However, when switching between work and personal use on my home PC I often need to change keymaps due to language switches.  Usually it doesn't take long to flip my brain over but it would be nice sometimes when multitasking to have backlit I think when I can't have desk lamp on because baby is asleep.

Have you considered the Leopold FC660C?

Topre isnt your only option. And although its quieter, the "type-s" and silent topre boards arent actually all that quiet in my opinion. I'm literally sitting here with a sleeping (and cranky teething) 5mo old right next to me in a rock and play... typing away with a "jailhouse" blue board that is for all intents and purposes, silent.

I took a look at some of the videos, definately an option.  Unfortunately my knowledge of modding ends at adding dampeners.  I'll look into this some more and see if its something I can manage.
