Outemu Reds vs. Cherry MX Reds
« on: Mon, 03 April 2017, 18:38:07 »
I am currently waiting on a keyboard from eBay that costed $35.00.  It has a 75% layout, or a tenkeyless that is made to be one unit longer and one unit taller than a 60% layout.  The keyboard has Outemu Red switches, a knockoff of the well known and well hated cherry MX reds. I am asking if anyone that has these switches and how smooth they are compared to the "premium" switches that are the MX.
Thanks in advanced,
~ibmpcdos5

Wow, reds are h8ed now ?

Remember those ~special~ Filco Reds that were considered rare pokemon and sold at premium. hahahaha

The copy reds should be smoother, I've heard they've all made the stems slightly smaller.

I think they are disliked because some people find them too easy to actuate. I wonder how they would react to Gateron Clears hahaha.

I recently got a board with a bunch of them.

They felt pretty much the same as MX Reds but somewhat heavier; Somewhere between MX Reds and MX Blacks weight. They weren't any smoother or less smooth than the MX Reds I've tried. It's worth noting that newer MX Reds (and all new MX switches it seems) are using new molds or something that are significantly smoother than the old ones.

New guy question: why were/are the mx reds hated?

I don't know where OP got this but MX Reds aren't really disliked or liked more than any other Cherry from what I've seen. Some people just find them a bit too light I guess.

I think it's become ubiquitous,  so it's not COOL with the In-Crowd anymore..  whereas they were coveted before they became widely available..

Everyone surely remember all the g4m3r vendorz making a big deal about mx red FOR GAMING..

I own a Drevo Gramr 84 with Outemu Reds and they are extremely scratchy.

https://input.club/the-comparative-guide-to-mechanical-switches/linear/ Here's a really good breakdown of the differences between some linear switches with force curve charts. :thumb:

Must have been a long while ago for people to have ever coveted reds, they're essentially a meme propelled forward by the "le epic gamer" community as the supposed "best switch for gaming".

Well used reds that have lost their scratchiness are as nice as any other linear I suppose, but new ones aren't exactly a pleasure to type on.

As far as Outemu reds go, I couldn't say as I've only ever had some sampler switches not a full board. But they were only a bit less scratchy in comparison to cherry from what i could tell.
