Not sure.. But I think it's Game Over AMD..
« on: Fri, 16 June 2017, 12:54:17 »
i9 7900x 10 core /20 thread CPU,  can reach 4.7ghz..   And possibly beyond with bigger liquid coolers.

We're back to the age of 300watt+ coolers..  Start selling off those NHD15, completely useless now.. hahahaha..

Gonna need 4x 120 rads again, or maybe even 2 of the 3x120

Either way, 4.7ghz is at least 3 more refreshes for AMD..

No way threadripper is going to even come close..

and 7900 is only $1000..

So... Thread ripper would need to come in at ~$600

The competition is good, this would've been a $5000 chip if intel had their way..

But,  I don't see AMD digging out of their hole any time soon.

X299 Motherboards can have features disabled based on the CPU you use. They want to force you to use Intel SSDs, with proprietary keys to use Raid. They have 20 PCIe lanes less than AMD's Threadripper will have (44 instead of 64) which gimps their high end PC market.

They're shooting themselves in the foot right now, and they need to fix it.

The pcie lane is not important..

They have their enterprise platform for that.

This is a prosumer chip..  people don't get into 44lanes very often .. only the big server people do that sort of thing.

so just looking at cinebench..

intel @ the 4.7ghz with 10 core/20thread   gets 2488 score

the 1800x gets    1614  score

if thread ripper merely doubles the cores,  (assuming it can hold that 4ghz across all cores) it comes to 3248

Now,  if they try to sell thread ripper at $1000,   YES you do get higher score on multicore,   but again, 4ghz single core scores means,  intel still has + 30% ipc + the overclock 700mhz,

Core vs core,  you get a 35-50% faster single core on intel..

That blows threadripper away on everything except server type tasks..   Which most people just don't do.

AMD makes the best/most efficient Mining hardware you can get right now (and always has). (https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/#/equipment)

Also AMD has GPU chips in almost every single gaming console out (except nintendo).

AMD is no longer considered a CPU front runner but its market share/reach is so insanely far reaching the company itself will never be in trouble. In the CPU sector they arent #1 but in their other sectors they are #1. AMD GPU chips will always be in demand.

The rumored AMD mining card thats coming out is going to be in demand for a long long time (just try and find a 480 right now).

Ryzen is kinda just like a "See we can still make CPU's" type of stunt. They just strait up cant get on Intels level in the CPU game.

Intel Market cap: $166b
AMD market cap: $10b

Seriously,  AMD should just sell thread ripper for $600...   everyone would buy it, at $600..   NO ONE will buy it even at $800

Enterprise is starting to look dubious...  as it seems Intel will play the ghz war, where they're 5 years ahead of AMD..

Meh. i9 and Threadripper (what an effing name...) are mostly hype right now. Those benchmarks that are out there have been measured on some extremely cherry-picked hardware.

And you don't have to buy the latest and greatest most expensive turd out there.

Sigh...  Mining is a fool's errand..   It's like people grinding poker, when you can just start your own poker site..

The money in Crypto is either starting your own currency,  OR buying/ trading currency..

Mining is for stupid kids trying to trade up their graphics cards..

as for mining CARDS... if that was ever profitable,  why is amd still in their hole.. mining has been going on forever...

Because mining cards don't make any money..

Intel sells you a tiny little enterprise cpu for $10000

A mining card is what $500 tops, the whole damn card ?

Come the fff on..

As for what constitutes trouble..  look no further than their sliding market value..

This is so insanely delusional, i cant even comprehend the stupidity in these statements.

Having read your comments for years I realize arguing with you about facts is a fools errand so I will let you think what you want. Meanwhile i will sit on the coins i have mined thruout the years and retire early.

Hahahahahaha...  mining a coin vs buying a coin..

If you have NO MONEY to start ,   mining is the only way into the market...

If you have even $100,000,  it makes no sense to go through with hardware and setup, when you can just start trading..

Who has the PCIe lanes to support VR green screen streaming? Who has the PCIe lanes to support VR green screen streaming AND the non-green screen live video feed? Which games are CPU bound? Which games are graphics card bound? How much of a difference does CPU clock speed make regarding the real world in-game CPU performance? Does overclocking span all cores and threads or is it limited to a select few? Will the dual-die design of Threadripper cause thermal issues or will it benefit thermals? Will VEGA push developers to refresh OpenCL standards? Will CUDA remain supreme over the course of the next ten years?

VR as is with current projection technology is floppy fish,  just like 3D..  I knew 3D was a flop as soon as it came out..   It MIGHT make a comeback as the 75 / 80 inch tvs become more affordable in the $1000 range..

but VR is too damn heavy with all the hardware right now..

And the optics continue to be at odds with a natural depth sensing experience.

I can see that. Word on the street was that when Quake 1 came out it was so immersive that people were literally losing their lunch because of it. I can see VR travel becoming a thing though. Google Expeditions or something like that.
