holy pandas dont register
« on: Wed, 28 August 2019, 03:41:15 »
Ive got a kbd6x hotswap.
Used to have zealios v2 but changed to holy pandas from massdrop.
Now theres keychatter on 2 keys and 1 key dont even register the keystroke.
First thouhgt was it was a faulty switch, changed to 10 different pandas but same thing, press the key but nothing registers.
Switched back to the zealios and no problems.
Anyone have an idea what to do ?

I wonder if the pins on the Pandas are thicker & either not fully inserting into the sockets or possibly pushing them off their pads. Although if the HS sockets got pushed off one of their pads that socket wouldn't work again till it was resoldered to the PCB. There is also the possibility that the globs of factory lube that got put into the MD HPs is causing you issues. Did you clean the factory lube out of your HPs before using them?

Theres only one socket in the pcb that wont register the panda. all other keys work using HPs. Ive tried with "working" HPs from other sockets but still nothing. but as soon as i try the zealios it works. So now i have all keys except for 1 with the pandas and 1 zealio.

Hmm, that is pretty weird. Although it has to be something with that particular socket if you've taken HPs that work in other sockets then they do not work in the one giving you issues. Could you upload a pic of the socket that's giving you trouble? The only other thing I can think is that the socket is starting to lift from it's pads on the PCB, but still has enough connection to work. Then the Zealio legs might be a bit longer allowing them to make contact with the socket while the HPs can not. That's just a wild guess though, without some pics I really can't do more than speculate to help you. I actually got rained out from work today so I'm off & will be chilling for the most part. I'd be more than willing to try to help you figure this out if you got the free time today as well.

Thanks for the comprehensive pics! Unfortunately I see nothing visible on the socket or switches that looks like a trouble area. Maybe send KBDfans an email & see if they'll replace the PCB. For now you can put a Halo stem in the Zealio V2 to make it feel a little more consistent with the Holy Pandas. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, I thought for sure I'd see something on the socket. PCB, or switches that would point to the issue. :( I will do a little goggle-fu & ask around  to see if anyone else had a similar issue & was able to resolve it. I'll post back here if I find anything out!

I appreciate your help. Baffels me . I was wondering since the HPs dont have the 2 stems for pcb mounted switches, and Zealios do, could that maybe be a factor....? But on the other hand , why should it , right -.-

Mmmm... Well,  solder one from the back,  and test it,  if it works 100% of the time, you know it's socket related..

You can do a non useful key like scroll lock.

If it still doesn't work right, the debounce timing maybe.

So i should desolder the hotswap, and solder in the switch..... from the back ? sound abit counter intuative. but i see what you mean.... allmost -.- :)
