MT3 keycaps very tight
« on: Fri, 09 April 2021, 06:07:42 »
Guys, do you have problems with your MT3 caps being very tight?
I always pull switches off the pcb when pulling MT3 caps. They it so hard/tight on the stems.

I'm wondering should I put some lube on the stems? But then I'll have lube on all caps;)

i have mt3 doubleshot abs and mt3 pbt keycaps and i noticed that only the pbt ones are tight. prior to discovering mt3 i also tried some dsa pbt and they were also tight. so far none of my mt3 abs are that tight. the pbt ones are tight that sometimes removing keycaps will also take the switches off my hotswap boards lol

yea lube it for safety.

Yeah, I think I would put a wee bit of krytox 205 in that cross holes. :thumb:

Yep, sorry, forgot to mention that I was talking about PBT (Serika) caps.
Now, when you mentioned it, I find all my pbt very tight - MDA and XDA too.

Would it be all PBT caps? Or specific sets, or maybe switch stem related issue with pbt caps? Maybe not all switches are like that.
I checked MX blacks, Tealios and Glorious holy pandas - all tight.

i dont have enough experience to conclude that. but so far my limited experience is pointing in that direction, i experienced that with various pbt caps on glorious pandas, holy pandas, gazzew boba u4. i think i have some gaterons, ill try later

i also have mt3 serika and /dev/tty. wish we had more mt3 in pbt. but mt3 abs oso not bad. at least the matte texture of the scoops don’t make shine so obvious. and have you seen shine on vintage keycaps that have scoops like mt3? they rather look cool compared to shine on more flattish tops hehe
