If you haven't watched it, I highly recommend it!

If you are intrigued by those computers and those keyboards - those ones are nice replicas of old computer - Data General 6053 terminal, or Dasher D2.

I saw Season 1 - creepy AF!

But I will have to find out what happens, after that extremely compelling cliffhanger.

Now that I have had a few years to binge on multiple "back issues" that I never caught the first time 'round, having to wait a week between "fixes" seems so so 20th century.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

This is basically real life. Modern corporate work culture is exactly as represented in the show.

They pay you a salary, what's not said up-front is we're then also signed up to the blind allegiance towards the imperialist structure.

If my company makes bombs for israel so they can genocide the palestinians, so be it. I have to feed my kids, who will also sell their souls into the same machine.  To work for the company or country, is then identical to removing pieces of yourself, your virtues, your empathy, your capacity for love.

Exactly like the show.

Personally I like it. It allows for the tension to build. For the watchers to engage in conversation and theories, before giving us another drip of dopamine. I think binging TV series removes a lot of that suspense building and community. Also, a single 1 hour episode fits into my nightly schedule very well.

I made 3 attempts to watch Severance and it didn't catch me at all.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

It is a very slow burn and deliberately off-putting.

honestly thought season 1 wasn't bad, but never really loved it while watching it. I started a few weeks ago with this recap
and now with the new episodes releasing, I'm really digging the last two episodes that've been coming. I'm definitely more engaged than I was when working through season 1.

Man, I keep hearing good things about this show and Shrinking.

I made 3 attempts to watch Severance and it didn't catch me at all.

That's me with Bojack Horseman. On paper it's everything I like in a comedy, but every time I try to watch it I find it boring, and pretentious.

Shrinking is a good comedy show, people with real life problems, sometimes it annoys me cause they show how people do not communicate between each other and this is main reason for many issues, but it is very common in movies. It is a "light watch", you can do that when you sit down after work in the evening with coffee and cake kinda thing :)

Severance - I loved it from the beginning, I can imagine why some people dont like it - it was slowly showing the whole office environment in first season and it slowly unravelling whole truth and problem behind the whole company. It could be off putting at times, but thing is everything else is so drawing you towards and keep you thinking what is really going on there, that it makes very interesting. Plus I really like the cinematography, way they filmed it, scenery, props, actual people they picked for those roles, it all build an amazing story:)

Just finished S2,

Realistically, there's no way Mark would've chosen Helly over Gemma.

It's like saying, someone would choose 4790k over 7800x3d if they cost the same, that's ludicrous. They used it to knowingly generate outrage as part of the plot.

And this is the game, the TV-System is designed to manipulate the audience to further capture attention.

It's a show manipulating the audience, about manipulating audiences.

Innie Mark would not choose Helly. This violates every natural law.

The discrepancy is purposeful. They did this to trigger the audience.

I have not seen Season 2, but Mark and Helly bonded in a mother-infant sort of way when she was "born" on the conference room table.

"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. Season 2 is where Severence lost me. It just felt like needlessly inflating a story that could have already been wrapped up and told in one season. I was done with the show by episode 3 of season 2, I just cannot put any more time into these rapidly diminishing returns.

First season had me hooked though, and was a great watch up until the final episode

No questions answered. Makes no sense. Ben Stiller is a sadist.

Some people watch it a second time. TBH, Tp4 doesn't think it's that complicated. The product IS severance, the goal being slave drones, complete control of personality and perception for any situational work. Gemma being split multiple ways.

This show would've been more compelling BEFORE AI,  Now, it's like, yea humans suck, why would you want them doing anything.

It does answer a few questions but then opens a few others :) And yeah I could see Ben Stiller grinning ear to ear while filming that ending. End credits are a perfect recreation of 70's movies credits by the way.
For me it stands on its own but I like open endings so YMMV.

I did watch the credits this morning and they were good. Last night I was so glad for it to be over that I did not watch them.

Hard to imagine where they will go next season. If they clone physical bodies I will be disgusted - that would be the cheapest plot device imaginable.

There was never even supposed to be a 2nd season. It only got picked up due to popularity, and the writers had nothing planned.

Dan Erickson had it all back in 2016 I believe. Not in the gritty nitty details but the overall story, and endpoint:
https://torontosun.com/entertainment/television/severance-creator-has-whole-series-mapped-out-theres-a-plan-for-where-its-all-going
https://watchinamerica.com/news/severance-creator-masterplan-show/
I was curious about the writer since I found a lot of parallels with Control (the video game by Remedy) and it turns out both had the same source of inspiration (Backrooms, SCP, etc.). Ben Stiller brought the scenario back to more solid grounds and centered it on the critic of corporate life.
And it's quite obvious that the end of S1 is a cliff hanger.
