How About a Thread for Positive Things ?
« on: Thu, 15 May 2025, 13:26:45 »
I woke up this morning with a dead air conditioner.

Now, at 2:30 in the afternoon, it is working again and it only cost me $100 thanks to my friend's nephew who is in the HVAC business.

Thanks, Patrick !

I won't have to work for the next 2.5 months and I'll still be paid
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

It is spring. Nature is sprouting fresh new green leaves. The trees are full of flowers. Late sakura are blooming, as are heather ... and soon lilac. The air is mild with a mild fragrance, and the sun is shining.

I watched the last of Season 2 of Star Wars:Andor yesterday.  It was refreshing to see some actually good Star Wars, made for grown-ups.

Got a massage today, and legitimately feel physically and mentally better. I'd 100% recommend a massage any day of the week to improve the entire rest of your day.
Even better that it was covered by insurance, although it only covers one a month. Still, something to look forward to!

Next time I'm gonna go directly from the massage to a hot soak, I think that sounds just lovely.

There's a cicada outside my window today. Forgot how peaceful the distant buzz can be on a Summer's day, sitting in my home office with some ice tea and a fan blowing on me. Cat napping on the chair. Good vibes.

My first summer in this house was 2021, and around here we had a huge Brood X hatch for most of the month of May. My daughter came up for a visit when school let out, and it was going strong.

Sitting on the patio, listening to them pulsing near and far, she suddenly said "Now I know where I've heard that sound - it is the phaser sound from Star Trek!" (TOS)

Other years there has been the usual baseline hatch, and it occurs weeks later.

Tp4's exercise bike pedal needed lubrication.

Good news, as it's indicative of dat Tp4 is getn' z xercise. Ball bearings, Still a tiny hint of scratchiness, but overall acceptable, no need to be nit picky, still wurks gud', less pollution.

COULLLD take the whole thing apart, and grease it properly, buhhh, the problem is the little plastic cap on the end, Tp4 feels like, if he pops it, that's like the end of it, prolly won't go back on.
