Okay Los Angeles folks, it's almost our turn! If there is interest for a meetup we should set one up.
Here's my list of people that are in LA (from what I could tell):
demik - has shown interest
reaper - has shown interest
Yzeets - hasn't mentioned wanting to meet up
Skoobs - most likely too far :(
Kick - mentioned by reaper
Tennobanzai - mentioned by demik (15min away)

If anybody is interested, just post a meeting place close to you that has free parking so we can get a feel of where everybody is located. Also mention when you're available. After one or two people respond, I'll PM the others to see if they're still interested, then we can figure out the meeting place that makes the most sense. I don't mind mailing out the package after the meetup.

My meeting place of choice: Westside Pavilion in West LA
Availability: Pretty much whenever since I work from home

Edit: Adding people to the list as they are mentioned

hate you guys! *runs away crying*

actually that is only 45 mins away. thats not too bad. would just need to do it on a day where i can spend the day out there with my girl or something.

http://g.co/maps/9sy2j

all i could bring would be a das ultimate silent with soft landing pads and orings installed. and i wouldnt mind selling oring kits to you guys on the cheap. like 10 bucks for a 104 layout and less for a tenkeyless. i would have to do the math. maybe like 7. if you guys like them. i could bring em and you guys could try em on your boards.

but still if you guys have any keyboard you could bring to add to the experience, that would be legit

This is an awesome idea! When will the first round end? I want to buy a keyboard sometime this month, preferably the next week. :/

I live outside of US, eastern Europe, by the way.

Also does anyone know the shipping prices? As I've seen hardware on Ebay that costs over $100 bucks to ship to here...

At the rate mine is going it'll be out another month or two at least.  Litster's will be back sooner.  Quite a few Canadians have shown interest so I think one of us will be doing a Canadian round next.  You might get faster results with MrInterface's Switch Try Bag, which I think is touring Europe.  I'll put you on my waiting list regardless, in case a European tour happens.

I don't know much about shipping to and from Europe, but $100 seems pretty high.  I hear $40-$60 quoted a lot.

Oh, that's quite a long time, and I couldn't pay more than 5-10 bucks for shipping as I've already borrowed money to even be able to buy the keyboard (no income).
I've PMed that guy in the thread you gave me though.

Thanks!

FWIW The shipping for the switch tester would be way less than $40 I'm sure.  I thought you meant for a full-size keyboard.

theres a european tester already. http://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=780

get in on that one if you are in europe. shipping back and forth across the ocean is not economical.

besides, theirs is better. you get 4 keys of each type. lol

West side pavilion is fine, about 15 mins away from me.

I can do weekends, Saturday around 5ish and sunday all day. Although, do you think the mall is a smart idea during the holidays? We can also do the Barnes and noble since it will be a lot calmer, but still in the same area since its next to the mall.
No, he’s not around. How that sound to ya? Jot it down.

Hm probably saturday around 5 then, so I can mail it after. The Barnes and Noble is connected actually, and there are tables on the bridge going over Westwood Blvd I think. But yea we would meet on the bridge or around B&N. There's a big underground parking lot under B&N with like 3 hour free parking or something.

Should we create a new thread for the meetup? I didn't see kick post in this thread so I'm guessing you saw him in another thread. Perhaps there are others in LA that would like to meet up as well!

Tennobanzai is also in so cal, he's like 15 mins south west of me. Might want to ask him if he wants to join also.

FYI, post office closes at two on Saturday, so you'll have to ship Monday regardless.

would be pretty badass if the meet happens. maybe we should start a thread for it.

also, we should try to figure out when the tester will arrive, and have it the following weekend. or maybe the weekend after that. since we will be getting 3 or 4 people out of way on the list, we should take extra time to be sure that the tester will be there in time. and i will need to know as soon as possible.

For anyone like me that did not get in on this early, you might check the tour dates to see if it will be playing at a theater near you. In my case, AKIMb0 is just a few miles north of me. Sure I will only get a few minutes with the switches, but that’s all I need to form an opinion.

Late in the thread, haven't even been able to read the entire 20 pages yet, but a couple thoughts:

-Funny for a pic of the tester on a table with the tattoo artist holding the tattoo needle over it as though getting a tattoo :)
-The various pics of the tester are really awesome. Reminds me of the early iPod days when people would take pics of their iPod around the world (The pyramids, Machu Picchu, etc.)
-Not only a very helpful project for SO MANY, but also fun, and a somewhat bonding experience. Hard to always get with people met online. Even selling an item is a one-person shot not shared by many.
-Wish I could go to the meetup in L.A. You guys take pics and post a few you are proud of. REALLY proud of.
-I'll read further and see if I can get on the mailing list for the future, no rush. If so, I have opportunities for pics that will become GH standards.
-Thanks to the peeps that made this happen, and the peeps that are continuing to make it happen. This is sweet. Much better than online dating.

Ok thanks for the update.  I'm hoping I won't have to give up my spot on the tour...I'm going out of town starting the 19th.  On a positive note, turns out I live near wcass so if I do get the tester he'll get to try it out too.  Plus, I'm going to be in Orlando from the 19th-23rd so I could possibly see if Jam would let me try it out if I have to forgo my spot.

I added you to the future rounds list.  There are no definite plans for the next round yet, but a lot of Canadians expressed interest early on, so it will definitely make it up there before another US round happens.

I live in Orlando and happen to be the first on the Florida list so if the switch arrives on time, we should have a small meet up after the 19th-22nd (I'm busy on the 18th and have to go to leave a few days before the 25th) if Jam and you are able to attend.

Thanks for the kind words.  I like that there's a little tester subcommunity developing here.  That's exactly what I was going for with the pictures and the level of trust involved in this project.

I've added you to the future rounds list in the OP.

Thank me for kind words? Maybe. THANK YOU for MAKING IT HAPPEN. It's not a small thing.

Slightly off topic, but I'm keying on a word....

Trust...I guess so. Several people have mentioned that lately on GH...I'm actually a pretty smart guy with a lot of experience (you wouldn't know that from my posts here), and I am realizing just how fortunate I've been in life regarding the 'trust and positive results' I've mostly experienced. And I take risks, a lot of them, with very big issues, definitely 'out there'. Ebay, GH, (the easy obvious small ones) as well as a multitude of other large things with work, etc. Nothing bad to report. In spite of this, perhaps I'm still a bit naive, or too trusting, again, maybe. Even if there is the occasional loss, it's been TOTALLY worth it. But I see it go both ways. I owe WASD Keyboards money, very, very little, but it's the principle. I'll pay him when I get over there to buy more stuff. There are a couple GH'ers that have busted their asses for me on a couple serious problem projects. I mean they put in A LOT of time and effort, without question over an extended period of time, just to help. That speaks volumes. I'll kill for those guys 5 years from now.

I look forward to the day I can put back into GH, (and individuals) what I have gotten out of it. It's coming. I just need time. It's been a very rough 2011 :(

Doing this project contributes to GH and individuals tremendously, and I believe it's important to have these types of situations and projects to try and become the norm rather than the exception. It is important. It's about people.

Ok, gotta go boost a car, and snatch a purse....later

If this meetup plan doesn't work, is it cool if we route the Tester to Akimbo first so he can see it before he goes out of town?

I'd like to get in on the next round if possible, however, i'll be gone the week after xmas (26th to jan 2nd) so It will have to be after that. . . or before?

Not even sure what the timeframes are. Also I live in wyoming so my picture with it and the local flavour will be either cows or a bar full of bored farmers.

That works.  The next round is probably at least a month away.
