Nah, they really are one of a kind works of art.

It's like a particular clothing brand. Sure it will look similar, but it will never truly be that same brand and style.

it shouldn't be a niche market much longer, the gaming peripherals market may ruin this awesome "exclusivity" that is currently enjoyed... (T_T)

I don't see this changing anytime soon as the first keyboard is way cheaper to produce then the second one.

Actually this may have been bad example, good luck finding the second one.

While I agree that the mech market is certainly expanding (I think it's wonderful), there will always be the niche market of the top quality KB/accessories. HHKB, realforce, filcos, customs, ect.

If you hang around here enough you start justifying purchases any way possible :)

You are absolutely right, however things worth noting-
1) did everyone get a good long heads up from EK? No
they did from me ;)
2) did everyone get a chance to get one from EK? No
they did from me ;)
3) The EK sale did slow down geekhack by a good bit! (not as bad though)

My point is they serve different purposes and they serve them better than not.

1) this is between you and EK's communication.  If you guys knew who is going to do what at when, you could have announced it on the forum ahead of time before EK put them up on the site.  So, you and EK could have made it work.  That fail was squarely on you and EK.
2) I say no, not everyone got a chance to get one from you this time either, due to the server not being available for everyone to send you a PM at the time you requested.  By definition, fair chance for everyone means everyone get the same probability to have a chance to buy from you.  Neither EK's sale nor your sale provided that.
3) posting to geekhack about the EK sales pale in comparison to hundreds of people refreshing pages on GH every few seconds or trying to send PMs to you.

EK sale and your sale here on GH may serve different purposes for *you*.  They serve the same purpose for your potential buyers.  People don't care where they can buy your caps.  They care that they can buy them.

I agree hindsight is 20/20.  Knowing what we know now, I would be super disappointed if another clack factory sale brings down geekhack again, because we have hindsight now.

I was trying to get them to give to some of the guys who donated a lot over what they should have toward my gb.

I don't know how anyone can say the gh system is better than EK, when the man has said that he's wasted something like 30 hours running these last two sales and it hasn't been profitable.
At the end of the day while he is doing something for this community, he has to make a bit of coin out of it as well. I wonder how many ppl would do 30 hours work for free for a hundred ppl that spend about the same amount of time bickering about who is going to get the end product? I know I wouldn't.

At least with EK presumably he just hands the goods over and gets some money back without having to worry about the selling part.

I really like these skull caps, but I am starting to question what the hell I am doing, is anyone else doing the same?

I had a Saitek Cyborg V5 and the key feel was horrid. There's rubber domes and then there's a small piece of cheap rubber of a membrane.
The latter is probably what was used in most Saitek keyboards.

same concept,, diamonds are actually pretty worthless as far as rarity, there are literally 100s of warehouses the size of foot ball fields STOCK FULL of diamonds,,, but they're held from market to preserve the current price points.... the mob controls these obviously..

If it isn't profitable, (though I doubt it, and wonder where you got the info) then I would for sure recommend that he significantly raise his prices. He should earn some return for what he is doing for this community, or it isn't fair to him. Nobody should be complaining about it either, if that's the case.

If the sole complaint is downtime for the masses, then take it up with the guys hacking GH all the time, as they end up rendering the site unusable much more often than the once every few months for a couple of hours. I got the info from here:

If I could do things differently right now then I would. I have now spent around 30hrs on the last (canceled) sale and this one and I have not made a dime yet (nor is it over) and this sale will not equate to being in any way financially worth it when you take into account the other problems it has inadvertantly caused.

I have seen a similar situation way back in the day, a bloody good bloke and good friend of mine ran a record store and would go out of his way to get imports (US) to us when the Aussie dollar was crap and it often came out of his own pocket because he didn't jack up his prices. He was "doing something for the community" Well too many ppl really didn't appreciate it and he went out of business

Are you discounting the refresh bots and people F5'ing all the time due to the pending sales that brought down GH on Friday?  If there has been a DDOS attack on GH, then the hacker isn't doing a good job.  It has only been able to slow it down.

Let's say there really was a DDOS attack on GH or some rouge process running on GH's server doing some other things (the server has been compromised many times before).  The CC sales is now the last straw on the camel's back.

Yeah but is Click Clack really the problem? If there are all these other issues happening then it makes sense that we fix those so CClack can run his sales. It should be within the capacity of the forum for it to be run on here if that is the case. IF it is all people trying to get keys, then either we need to do the distributed servers like iMav mentioned or he needs to set up his own site to process orders. If you recall I was for that notion at the outset, its just whether that is convenient/feasible for him in the first place. I am completely on the side of CClack not having to undertake a greater burden if he isn't able to justify it monetarily. If he's just trying to get us some cool keys as a hobby, then I can handle the site being down for a couple of hours every few months. The way the site was slow way before yesterday leads me to believe there are other factors contributing to the slow/inaccessible site though.

1)It's NOT A FAIL! As I said before these sales serve different purposes by and large. Doing things the same way is more limiting to different people.
He knows what I am doing and I know what he is doing, I'm the manufacturer, we're not in the dark. A higher number of people AND different people got in on these keys than before. It did work, more people got keys, different people got keys, period.  =)

2)Over 98% of people who ordered in my sale will get keys either in this sale or the closed sale for those who just missed out. If you ordered over 4hrs past the sale then you missed out on both, this constitutes <2% of the people who ordered. Acurrate numbers btw. Fair? I think this is even more fair than everyone having the same chance even if the server didn't go down. The same probablility (your "fairness") would also mean most would not get a key, my way, most WILL GET A KEY. I take your fairness and spit upon it from my moral grounds. LoL (c'mon that was funny). If I bent backwards any further the world would look upside down.

3) NO ONE HONESTLY KNEW THAT WOULD HAPPEN! Almost 2hrs of the site being down durring my sale and the almost two weeks of the site going down every few minutes or being very inconsistent. Pale in comparison? Really? 2-ish hours of being mostly down compared to over a week of inconsistency. I apologize for any problems on geekhack that I may have caused, I APOLOGIZE TO GEEKHACK FOR ANY PROBLEMS THAT I MAY HAVE CAUSED! I already feel horrible about this and I am doing everything I can to make it right.

4) People care quite a bit where they buy things from, sure not everyone, but a HUGE amount due, as in the vast majority from my personal experience with these. It's not common for people to have a real "connection" with the manufacturer (even though I am just a pin prick in the market).
Varied distribution works better on many levels, especially in a small market. I am an Artist first and foremost, my motives, direction, and pursuit are dictated exclusively by this.  werd to my homies XD

In the past two years it has only been this last month where there has been an access problem that may have to do with me. Try planing things many months in advance and then get hung up on a what was thought of as a fluke initially.

And to your last part-
You and me both!

Agreed that if the forum could handle the load, by all means do it they way it has been on GH.  But it isn't up to it.

In case I come across a total jackass, let me walk the talk.  I created a sample survey on google docs.  Try it out.  enter some random text to it.  As many as you like.  Then I can share the resulting list so CC and other potential group buy organizers can see how it might help them to organize GBs.

So clickclack have all the people that got something been notified? I personally appreciate you bringing the sale here. Geekhack obviously has issues to work out besides the people F5ing for CC's.

Ha, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that my PM 25 minutes before CC cut off the deadline is enough to get in the dibs sale. My wife is so awesome that she let me try and send PMs via Tapatalk all night throughout our dinner date. I can confirm that AT&T really provides the fastest wireless internet...

And no, I won't do that again next time...

Most quotes have gone out (not all), some of the Dibs PMs have gone out (not all)
