Chinese vs English Ducky

So I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these suckers:

Since they seem to be the most reasonably priced brown tkl I could find. However, their English layout is out of stock. I'm under the assumption that the Chinese layout board will operate just fine on my PC (other than having slightly less-than-sexy keycaps), but I just wanted to ask if anyone knew of any strange problems arising from using a different layout board or if the difference is ONLY the keycaps.

Yup, the "Chinese"(actually should be Taiwanese) layout are only some extra printing on the keycaps.

Do Ducky boards have QC issues or something? Just curious as to why they might be "sucky."

Instead of QC issues, I think "design flaws" should be a more suitable term.

My day is just getting worse and worse, first I find out that a GM joined the SC2 tourney and now that I almost ordered a **** board T.T

Any recommendations then as to a good tkl board with browns? Was trying to not spend a ****load on it that's how I came across the ducky.

Try Leopold/CM Storm(from global.pchome). That should be the "budget" TKL brown switch board.

Think I might go with the leopold since it's about the same price and less branding.

nothing wrong with ducky 9008 series.
just a bad rep with their 1008 and 1087 series due to QC in the past.
but then again, the 10xx series is their budget line, so you get wat u pay for.

Actually stumbled across the keycool, apparently it's a leopold clone. Anyone have any opinions on this? Sorry I keep chaining questions in this thread, to compensate if we have any protoss players that need help, send me a PM >.>

Agreed with CaiSter, my 9008G2 is a great board. I have no problems with it and I'm VERY picky (typing on this Lycosa made me want to kill myself).

The 9k series doesn't come in TKL as far as I am aware. Size has actually become a concern for me due to the really irritating layout of my desk.

Yeah, mine is not TKL. I prefer it that way though, my work does involve a bit of numerical entry. I also like how they actually use the free space above the numpad by adding four programmable shortcut keys (the defaults are Calc, Computer, Email, Web, I set them to Calc, Run, Notepad, and Task Manager).

yeah, thats the only problem with ducky right now, they dont have a good TKL board.

They(Ducky) asked you to stay tuned for their "Ducky Dragon Year 2012 limited edition". It will be a tenkeyless with backlit(first in the field?) and completely new molding(which mean no longer a 10xx series) + limited edition(like it really is for the Tiger Year(2010) edition? Still some available in taobao after 2 years, LOL...)

Keycool is coming out with a TKL backlit soon too. Not sure who will be the faster, LOL...

Ehhh don't know if I would go for keycool. I know Ducky's quality from using my old lady's. I would have to try out a keycool before I could commit to a brand with such a stupid name.

I don't know if this counts as a true 'tkl' since its 84 keys, but the noppoo choco mini has a backlight version. There are some pictures here

Nope it doesn't count.
The very first mini/compact with BL should be TG3 and Deck, then followed by KBT Race.

Its pretty expensive compared to the non backlight version though. The taobao prices are $60/90usd (50% more) for the standard/backlight model. It seems like the import price for the standard one is about $100 on various websites so the import price on the backlight one would probably be around 150$ (50% more).
