Things have been weird lately in the last two years, with my body and healing, I've had 2 major injuries back to back, one of which was 4 fractures in both heels, and randomly after a workout last week, my right heel starting giving me a lot of pain. so today i drove up to my doctor, just to make sure everything was ok, and there are no broken bones, but maybe a stress fracture. I really can't describe how frustrating it is, but it's really weird.

i guess soccer is not happening for the 3rd year in a row -_-

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Not just today, but since thursday/friday I got a lot of my soldering stuff.

Now I just need my new board and my iron to get here.  I also need to figure out how I'm going to be taking apart the switches.  I'm not really having success trying to bend the few binder clips I found around my house.

I used a teeny little flathead screwdriver.  Pop the tabs out on one side, hold them open, pop out the other tabs, pull switch apart.

That's exactly how I've been opening all of my switches!  It works really well, but your left thumb will definitely start to hurt after a while ;)

After opening 90 some switches twice for lube and stickers, I can say yes, it will hurt.

I seem to recall that someone was opening switches with the tools taped to his fingers.

Not in the mail but there was (again) two old keyboards in the electronics-bin at my work, didn't really get a good look a them.
Turns out they're a Dell QuietKey and a "J  A  D" (??) with both the same plunger+dome type of keys.

Out of curiosity I tried the QuitKey because it's supposed to be "a bit better" than dome without plungers... Well I don't really see a difference compared to a standard rubberdome.
To the trash it goes.

I took a peek at the different keyboards that are on the 10 to 20 years old electronic test-benches at my work (I work on the french high-speed train, the electronic on it is usually older than me) and they're almost all mechanicals !
There is some Cherry with trackpads and Mx blacks, Cherry with ML switches (must be older than mine, got the 2-colors scheme), multiple model m, and this HP :

Anyone got any info on this one ?

Anyway I'm going to try and ask if I can take some old keyboards if I replace them with brand new ones (cheap rubberdomes :p).

That was all stitched by hand too... Even the gold embroidering!

Mad skills!! She should sell those.

My sister is a bum.
She is thinking about it, but she said the amount of time would make it cost too much... eh I got mine!

Looks very much like the keyboard from an old HP terminal, probably pre-700/96.  Especially the menu/system keys in the middle of the Fn row, which used to toggle the function key boxes at the bottom of the screen.  IIRC rubber dome and probably won't work with a modern PC.

Thanks for the piece of knowledge!
I didn't try to type on this one because even if it wasn't running, I try to avoid messing up with the equipment.
Guess I'll try to get another mx board then.

Minicom IV.
29887-0
29889-1

No Super Black, unfortunately, but rather a linear Dark Gray (I think...)
29891-2

Some decent doubleshots, and a 8x spacebar (non DS)
29893-3
29895-4

Pretty dusty, lot of dead bugs.  The keycaps are soaking in denture tabs, the PCB is ready for soldering practice, and the rest is in a sealed garbage bag.
