A little subjective Lunartuna but I'll take a shot at this.

First off I was under the impression it was PCB mounted. Second, it's got the weird 75% layout. I have a G84-4100 and it's really hard to adapt to the layout. I really don't like the dedicated arrow keys. Or the stock keys really; the side printing makes it look cluttered. And because of the odd layout, this means a lot of the keysets that are popular (Red Alert, CCnG, etc) cannot be used unless there are specialty keys made/found.

If I'm spending $100, I'd rather get a poker/pure or even the new found Filco deals.

I would say that the Choc mini layout takes hardly any adaptation at all.  Everything is in the right place except for the arrows and sixpack.  I think it doesn't get any love simply because it just isn't the new hot thing anymore.

Going by the pics on this guys ebay store...

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Noppoo-Choc-Mini-84-Mechanical-Keyboard-Cherry-MX-Black-/250856182331?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item3a6831923b&_uhb=1#ht_8941wt_1163

Looks plate mounted? I'm a newb still.

Also it looks like he has a newer version?

I might pick one up.

You're right, it's plate mounted. I'm not sure about the new version though.

I really like the layout, and I don't plan on putting a whole matching set of keycaps on it. I'll use my ducky for that.

This would be a board for at work that I will stick random novelty caps on row 1, probably an arrow key set and the various other random caps like the ones from the GH Jan pack.

I've read that it has wacky firmware but will that matter if I mess with it?

Cool. Sounds like it's a good match for you. You can use AutoHotKey to program the board as you like.

Do cherry profile 1.75x R Shifts exist, and if so are they all ABS? I'm on the lookout if something like this exists, but have a feeling all of them have been made by SP.

Edit - An 1800 R Shift would work I think, but is this cherry profile?
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.10.13.VBzjrN&id=15962128659

You don't want those keys they are terrible quality. I am not sure who made them but they have some really odd profile too. It's like DCS but higher, but not as high as OEM.
To my knowledge there is no proper Cherry RGB with 1.75 shift yet. For standard color (light grey, medium grey, beige, black) you can get them off 1800 in ABS, PBT (light color only) or POM (black only).

White on black, you need 2 keyboard which can be found on ebay often. First you need either 8113H**US or 8200H**US for the bottom row and full touch caps lock, then you need something like a MY8000H**US for the doubleshots of function and nav keys.
Black on white/grey just buy a set from originative. Finding vintage in this colorway with 1.25 and fulltouch caps lock is a ballbreaker.

Okay, I have a question, perhaps dumb, I'm not sure.

But if I were to buying a KBC Poker (for example) and then purchased a case like this, would I be able to take the KBC 'guts' out and implant them in this Aluminum case? Is that feesible, or do I have to build an entire board around these types of cases? I just ask because I'm not certain how great I am at piecing together switches and such and if I have to manually make one myself.. ima need to practice. o.O

Thanks!

A few caps + 5 screws are all that stand in your way to swapping cases.

When someone in one location of the world buys an item for someone located elsewhere and ships it to them.

Say you want to get a Leopold FC700R. Right now the most reliable way is to buy it from a retailer in Australia. But I live in the USA. How do I handle shipping and money differences? The easiest way is to have someone help you buy it, called a proxy. I pay my buddy $XX. He goes and buys the thing for me and ships it to me.  That way you don't have to convert money or deal with shipping. You can just have someone help you buy.

I'm sure I'll have another round of questions once I accumulate enough Poker/Phantom parts to attempt a build, but my question today is about the complete opposite end of the keyboard spectrum; 122-key Unicomp keyboards.

Background: I want to use AutoHotKey to remap/add functions for some of the keys on a Unicomp 122-key Model M (#BO40B56).  I downloaded and installed AHK on my work laptop, seems to work fine and I tried a few sample scripts I've found online, the board works well using the PS2 port on the docking station.

Question: AHK suggests adding a new keyboard profile to the application once it's installed, to use as a template for key-mapping.  Are there sources for these templates already created for this 122-key unit?  I don't want to have to create one from scratch if there's a library of existing samples somewhere.

What about the Filco controller though? Phantom plates don't accommodate to that, that's why I designed my universal TKL plates. Fits both Filco and Phantom, but it just hasn't been anodized yet.
