Looking for my first mechanical keyboard
« on: Thu, 21 February 2013, 16:16:03 »
Hey guys,

I type a decent amount, i have my share of reports and labs to type up.
I also game occasionally.
USB Please
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, I use a Mac

I am looking for a good, cheap mechanical keyboard. I was looking at a couple:
CM storm quickfire rapid
CM stormtrigger
I am not too sure about what type of switches I want, but I am looking for a keyboard with more feedback than my mac keyboard. The Cherry MX blue switches caught my attention for the clicky feedback and tactile feedback.
I am not looking to spend too much money, nothing more than 100, but preferably ~50 range

Thank you so much in advance.

Buy whatever and get disappointed or not disappointed.  Do not return if you ever think this is an option.
60% keyboards, 100% of the time.

"What the hell Jimmy?!  It was ruined before you even put it up there with your decrepit fingers."

1. 100 what?

That is all, we can help you but we need more information.
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Only an American would be so presumptuous as to not give the unit of their currency. (As an American, I should know) My guess is US dollars. You can also kind of guess from just looking at his keyboard selection.

My advice, if you don't need a number pad, is to get the Quickfire Rapid. You just can't get more bang for your buck from any other board and it is super easy to find alternate caps for it, if that is your thing. Additionally, it sounds like Cooler Master customer service is pretty good. Personally, I went for the Quickfire TK, because I wanted a number pad on a compact keyboard.

Only way to know which switch you want is to somehow get them in hand. If you don't have a local store that carries mechanical keyboards, then it might be a good idea to spend the $8 + shipping to get a sampler kit from WASD. http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/wasd-sampler-kit.html

Well...... Arn't most of this forum's members USA peeps?

Also.... Most are "KIDS", so they wouldn't think so much before posting..

ALSO..... Internet in general, people don't think much before posting...

Also x3.... 100 dollar or 100gbp or 100euro, wouldn't make a huge difference between keyboards... because the keyboard gap is $100, and then the next step is $300+ assuming no keycaps in between....

If anyone was trying to buy any keyboard with ANY other currency, it wouldn't be in 3 digit denomination...

example 100yen, 100yuan, 100hkd, 100kroner, 100wong, 100rupees

I somehow missed that you were a Mac user.

If you really want a proper Mac keyboard with Mac labeled function keys, then you could look at a Matias Quiet Pro. It is a little more expensive though. http://matias.ca/tactilepro4/

They also have a slightly cheaper Laptop Pro version, but it is wireless.

Both use ALPS keys IIRC, so they will feel a little different then the Cherry MX boards and they will be harder to get custom caps for, if that is your thing.
