Your CPU is still viable, ranking higher than all i3 ivy bridges and some i5 sandy bridges on cpubenchmarks. Though the benchmarks aren't necessarily an precise indicator of how you and your programs will utilize the CPU.
Tom's HDW has a good hierarchy chart comparing the various Nvidia, AMD, and Intel GPU offerings. AMD GPUs tend to have better pricing than the Nvidia tier equivalents, so most would recommend AMD for best price/performance ratio. It's really down to your budget, feature set, and your monitor(s) setup. One thing to mention though, is that with Nvidia high end GPU the Lightboost feature can eliminate motion blur for 2D on specific new 120Hz+ gaming monitor models with some tweaks.
