When I first stepped on the site, I went to a disturbing article directly. And I left ... scarred. But while I was there, I had to read the comments... I looked at the comments expecting people to be disgusted and horrified but to my even greater disgust, people didn't seem moved and casual...
I went back and I don't know why but I did. I went directly to the about page which is not nsfw because I wanted to know WHY!? The author presents the website's purpose as a news website providing the ugly side of humanity. Its purpose is to "exposes the truth about the humans as a whole and the truth is not always nice." But the websites url and the commenters prove otherwise. Than I clicked the fansigns page and man.... the commentors are more twisted than the articles... I thought this website has no purpose but to serve people with gory fetishes...
And then on the side of the website I came across the url for the boston massacre articles.... there was a video(not gory) of a man talking about what he experienced and the man was shaking and traumatized and there were other videos of the bombs going off. I heard of the boston massacre before but I wasn't honestly moved that much... after I saw this, I'm now wary of going out to public events. Most of this website is unnecessarily gory and uninformative but I felt that this particular article to me was informative. And linked to this article was a different video of people celebrating the capture and death of the suspects. After reading the first boston article, I did feel disgust at the terrorists but the way the people celebrated disgusted me equally.
I wouldn't have seen this without this website. I won't be going back to it because of its twisted purpose but its changed my perspective on news... and I don't think I'll read news the same way again. Toning down the violence of news is necessary but after my experiences, I've realized it doesn't convey a lot of necessary information...
