Many of you guys use multi-monitor set ups, Ill ask this here.
« on: Sun, 04 August 2013, 06:36:16 »
I tried to google this issue but I couldn't come up with anything.

I just added a second 1080p monitor to my GTX 670 so I could extend my desktop. When I launch a game from Steam, sometimes the second monitor goes black. Other times, the extended desktop remains as displayed. It seems completely random, I cant find any settings in NV control panel or otherwise to take control of this. How can I control whether the second screen continues to display (besides turning it off  :) )?

A quick note, Im using a VGA-->DVI adapter for the second monitor, otherwise my set up was INSISTING that my second monitor was number "1" when using standard DVI, causing me grief. Not sure if this matters.

Thanks

Normally if you have problems between which is 1 or 2 just swap the cables at the video card.

And some games will use the second monitor others will just blank it.

My 670 has only one "DVI-D" connection, the other one is just DVI. I wanted to have my main monitor in "DVI-D"... but I also just read it makes no difference at all...ill try and switch them around.

Yeah, swap 'em. The DVI one has D and A... the DVI-D has just D.

You've solved this, right?  I'd also add that you can play in windowed full-screen mode so you can move your mouse out of your game and click on something on another screen (like a web browser).

Yah, I did thanks. That's a good tip too. Ive found that one neat thing about launching games with steam is that if you "shift tab" to bring up community in game it frees the mouse cursor completely.

Lies.. :D

Your eyes r not big enuff..

The foveal vision that is required for computer use is less than 2* left and right.

Everything else falls under peripheral.

Almost nothing in peripheral vision is useful in terms of computer use.

I wonder how many mine sweeper games could be going at once on 3 x 30" screens

Not on topic, but I remember a time I googled DVI-D and laughed because of the roman numerals math.

True, I don't use it all at once, but it sure beats alt-tabbing or moving windows around. Of course, my use case isn't very typical.
