Greensum is who I bought mine from like a month or so ago.  Had no pixel problems and no backlight bleed.  I paid $289 for mine D:

The frame is glossy, the screen uses non-aggressive matte coating. I have a feeling they're shipping B+ monitors now though, but I'm not sure. People are still getting great results with this monitor, so you should probably pick one up.

Hi there,

1. What's the difference between Dual Link DVI-D and HDMI? Which is better?
2. What if my computer only has a VGA port, can I get an adapter for it?
3. Is this a good deal? Why?

Thanks!

Do these lg panels?  I remember reading somewhere that they had used the same ones as the dell 27u and iMacs.  If so, this is a great deal.

1. You have to use DVI-D for this monitor, I do believe DVI-D is better.
2. Probably not, this monitor requires a dedicated GPU to run. You should have something with a native DVI-D output.
3. Yes, 1440p Samsung PLS semi-aggressive matte coating known to overclock to 120Hz+.

No, these are PLS panels from Samsung, not the IPS panels from LG. It seems that PLS really is the superior technology, no need for 2B PCB's to overclock.

Ok, I see.

1. I have an HDMI port on my computer, so I guess I'll stick with that. In which case, which monitor would you recommend, that is high quality and reasonable price?
2. Monitor should be in the 27 inch+ range

Thanks!

1. hdmi usually only works to 1080p, dual link dvi allows higher resolution, in this case 2560x1440
2. no
3.  yes, these are overclockable 1440p monitors and pretty much anyone who tries to overclock it gets at least 96hz.

IPS is made by LG and PLS is made by Samsung.  They are pretty much the same though.  Basically the korean monitors use the same panels as the big brands but they may be slightly lower quality(there are different grades, and usually these A- rating).

I do not know if these are lower than A- panels because of the price.  Like I said, I paid 289 for mine before from greensum and its perfect.

The sad part is, Nearly everyone could afford a $500-600 panel if they just "saved" a little longer...

It's worth Every penny.. :thumb:

There is nobody out there who could afford a $300 panel and would otherwise die if they spent $600 on a better panel...

How I'd LOVE to believe that a $300 panel is remotely close to a $600 one.  :))

But let's not kid ourselves..

I'm not a monitor snob...  But there's a reason they sell Scraped panels at HALF the price of "select" panels.

Lower contrast performance

Gamma curve Shifted too far from spec (un-natural odd color reproduction)

Brightness levels across panel surface uneven

Using cheaper Backlights

NOT tuned well at factories

Using cheaper Control hardware.. (makes a huge difference in sharpness, scaling artifacts, pixel responsiveness)

All the above, the average user will not know to check for..

Let me rephrase that.  I meant mine was perfect as far as the usual defects are concerned.  Meaning mine had no pixels problems(hot, stuck, dead, bright) and no noticeable backlight bleed.  As far I am concerned I think they are great for the price, but I am also not doing insanely color accurate things.  I just play games and browse.  Here is a review of someone who has tested multiple monitors http://wecravegamestoo.com/forums/monitor-reviews-discussion/13500-qnix-qx2710-review-2560x1440-matte-overclock-able-pls.html

I know some reasons they are able to be so much cheaper is because the bezel and stand aren't great, there is no OSD to change settings, and there are some QC issues(some people get blb, often fixed by opening up case and evening out the pressure).

I ask you though.. Could you not have saved for an extra week to get the $600 monitor?

This is an item you will use for YEARS.. let's say 5 years... break down the cost, 600 is 32cents per day...

For something that you will use for several hours a day...

Not currently employed, just a full time college student.  So I guess I could say no I could not save for an extra week to get the $600 monitor.  But for my purposes, I did not see the  need to pay the extra premium for one of those monitors.  I also like that they can overclock without hassle, though I do not know how the $600 monitors do with that.  These being single input monitors also reduce input lag.

I completely understand what you are trying to say.  But in my case I do not think I could justify the extra cost.

Most importantly, a reviewer found the PWM frequency for the backlight to be 160Hz (or more). This is very important to me, and some more expensive monitors (such as the apple cinema / thunderbolt display / imac 27) are pretty horrible for me.

I could understand paying a premium(15%-35%) to get the name brand upgrade, but in this case it's twice the price!   If you are saving twice as much you might as well buy two, then you can return one and keep the better to alleviate 90% of the quality issues you referenced
You better start believing it. You might be kidding yourself because you sound like someone who would wait in line hours on end to pay close to a grand for a phone because ‘paying more guarantees a better product’.
Yep there sure is but you forgot about the casing and stand costs where some of us use mounts and don’t need a $150 super swivel-tilt-pivot-hover stand, or just don’t want to pay for one and can get over the fact the stand will be low quality, but can be replaced later if they so choose.
In today’s day and age of enthusiast forums it is very easy to find guides and videos with all the settings needed to tweak your display and don’t need the company assembling the hardware it to do it for you.

Sure, if you want something nice and shiny that works 99% straight out of the box without any user interaction what so ever, go pay whatever exorbitant amount of money will make you feel happy and justified in your purchase.
If instead you want a comparable experience at 50% of the cost, and aren’t afraid to get your programming fingers dirty tweaking your display settings, fixing backlight bleed by tweaking the screws and case (it’s SOO much easier than most people think to get rid of a majority of blb) pick one of these Korean badboys up. I would be willing to bet a majority of you would be very happy with your purchase.
The return policy on most of the Korean sellers is amazing as well, add on top of that SquareTrade if you so desire and if anything should go wrong, you are taken care of.

This is my opinion and only my opinion, people will spend their money how they so choose, I just wanted to share my experiences in this area.  :thumb:

These Korean IPS (and more recently PLS) monitors have been in the $300-$400 range for over a year now--I'd greatly recommend reading through long threads on Overclock.net about them.  There's good feedback about various sellers and general monitor quirks.  I got 2 Achieva ShiMian IPS monitors with tempered glass over the bezel over a year ago from 2 different vendors, and they are not perfect (some miniscule dust under glass, which I knew was a strong possibility, and some bad pixels), but each cost ~$315 shipped and still going strong.  Greensum has had his ups and downs, and at least last year, he'd not be the person I'd be ordering from, but perhaps he's gotten better with customer service by now.  It's the times when something goes wrong that matter--if you get a broken or a defective monitor.  Because vast majority are fine, so the positive feedback is just to acknowledge that the monitors have arrived and all is well.
