Decided to give hhkb a second chance. I really like its layout, form factor and overall aesthetics. I have just ordered a new one after being extremely disappointed with the type s. I found it to feel twice as scratchy as mx browns. I was so angry with my purchase that I took the sliders out and threw them in the trash along with the keycaps.

wouldnt it be ****in cool if you had a kid and you didnt like that kid so you pulled out all its teeth and threw them away

Whoa. Cool man.
Ever tried topre on a board other than hhkb?

Could not believe that such a hyped up and expensive product is produced so poorly. I'm really only referring to the finish of the outer surface on the topre stems and possibly rails/guides on the slider and the slider housing.

I say this because the feeling of smoothness and preciseness was completely absent from the hhkb. When compared with my Novatouch which is usually considered a low quality topre board.

I am very glad that the hhkb was not my first topre experience. What a complete fiasco that would have been.

This time around I will be lubricating sliders, rails and stabilizers of course. After that if the topre experience is still nowhere near what it should be like on my silenced novatouch I will accept it for what it is and try to view its huge imperfections as endearing qualities. But that's not going to happen.

Sorry to hear that! Must be some manufacturing issue.. I've never heard this before and I sure do watch this forum.

Hmm if you google lube hhkb. You come across a couple threads where people have mentioned that a few keys felt somewhat scratchy. I even read a post where someone said the type s seems to feel a bit more scratchy than the non S. But I don't think anyone's been as upset as me over it. I really hope I got a dud. Waiting on the regular hhkb.

I'm thinking you got a dud. I found my HHKB2 to be pretty damn smooth even before I lubricated it the other day. Now it's even smoother and better!

If you are in Sydney I could let you see mine if you want and see if it is for you.

Just received my first ever HHKB Pro 2 last night. Keyboard experience before this has been MX blues and Kailh blues. I love the Topre feel. After having typed a bit on it when I received it yesterday, I was literally lying in bed thinking about the feel of the keys. The layout - particularly the location of the delete/backspace and control keys - will take some getting used to but I ultimately think it will be more efficient.

Does anyone else have crooked keycaps on their HHKB? Unless I'm just losing it, it appears that a couple of the keys are a little tilted or crooked. Maybe it's just me.

Now I just need to dress it up with an artisan or two and maybe a new Pexon cable.

I have a couple keys that look crooked, but not enough to bother me.  I guess it helps having blank keys :P

Its a fact HHKB feels scratchy, i ve mentionned it earlier, its not a good term to explain it
its a sort of friction underneath your fingers
Normal HHKB does have it but its less noticeable than silenced HHKB, i dont own Type-S but my silenced HHKB feels scratchy on some keys, not all of them
Live with that, there is nothing you can do, its pretty NORMAL
I also own a silenced NT, much better silenced feeling, i must say, less friction, better typing experience overall but HHKB has its own charm which i really love (its more ergonomic with some inclination, the bottom of case is lower than the upper of case, i simply prefer inclined keyboard than flat keyboard design)

You typing with a wrist rest? If your wrist is elevated properly the spacebar won't be uncomfortable anymore. Sorry this is just one of my keyboard pet peeves.

Ha, yeah was /s

But really, if you throw an HHKB away, you are on drugs. Not just selling it to someone else, as they do hold value very well, is just dumb.  Throwing away just the sliders and keycaps (leaving a plastic case and PCB?) makes even less sense haha.

No wrist rest currently, I did however just put the KB on a Dell E7250 and it felt like butter (Acted somewhat like a wrist rest)

Yeah I don't get it. Plus no one knows what the guy is going through etc. I don't see the need to say such comments to someone. Even if their actions on the surface seems ridiculous.

As mentioned above, this is the love thread. Let's get back to loving our beloved HHKB! Typing more and more on mine after lubing is amazing. Can't wait to lube my Realforce and compare it to my HHKB.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to say that the Topre addiction is real and not a myth. I've been converted and here to stay.  :thumb:

Bought my first HHKB last week in black non printed and yesterday a white, non printed. I'm really curious about the Type-S and will also be picking one up this Thursday..My wallet hates me.

After receiving my first HHKB, I ended up returning my Pok3r in Clears and keeping my Pok3r with Browns as a backup. Nothing else compares, MX feels so..Scratchy? At first I hated the layout of the keys, but after playing with the HHKB for about a week, the position of the control button makes a lot of sense. :)

The nice thing about stock HHKB is that they all start out pretty DAUMN good! The tweaks are just personal taste.

Oh hell yeah! Glad to bring him (or her?) some business. I love the cable so far. It is my first custom USB cable so I can't compare it to Pexon or Mimic, but compared to other cables I own for my guitar and audio equipment, the quality is pretty damn fine!

Having used the HHKB for a while now, here's what I would change in terms of layout:

I'd move the PrintScreen from the 'I' to the ']' so that it's less of a reach.

I'd like to be able to assign the right diamond key to be another Function key so I could use my thumb for it. Even more interesting would be a second function layer using this key that would turn the four arrow keys into Home/End/PgUp/PgDown so that those same four keys can be used under each layer. Both my thumb and pinky are simultaneously on the right diamond and the Function keys while my index and middle finger are on the arrows so without moving you'd have access to your full navigation.

The current Home/End/PgUp/PgDn layout is a bit of a stretch for me and simply don't come naturally to me as the arrow keys do. Try imagining it on your HHKB and get an idea for what I mean.

Being able to turn the tilde key into primary Delete key (with tilde under the function layer) would server me much better.

One thing is for sure: this little keyboard has grown on me over the past few months and it has quite a bit of character. I think I'm also at my fastest and most accurate with it compared with other keyboards (though not much different than the Realforce 87U 45g uniform).
WhiteFox (Gateron Brown) -- Realforce 87U 45g -- Realforce 104UG (Hi Pro 45g) -- Realforce 108US 30g JIS -- HHKB Pro 2 -- IBM Model M ('90) -- IBM Model M SSK ('87) -- NMB RT-101 & RT-8255C+ (Hi-Tek Space Invaders) -- Chicony KB-5181 (Monterey Blue Alps) -- KPT-102 (KPT Alps) -- KUL ES-87 (62/65g Purple Zealios) -- CM QFR (MX Red) -- Apple Aluminum BT -- Realforce 23u Numpad -- Logitech K740 -- QSENN DT-35 -- Zenith Z-150 (Green Alps)

What kind of drugs are you on, and where can i get them?

No need to be rude.  A lot of people prefer plate mounted Topres to the plastic wobbly HHKBs.

Also, you do realize this is the "HHKB Pro 2 LOVE" thread, right?

Good point!  But the drugs reference wasn't necessary.

Well, I mean, I guess that is one way to sort out the heathens and prep them for being burned at the stake for their heresy.

Wouldn't mind trying 1 of those out, currently getting a Nova Touch KB sent to me and an HHKB-S. Want to modify the keyboards a bit.
