The normal noise of the HHKB is nice I really enjoy it. The Type S I would say is better suited for a work environment. I only say that because I want to eliminate the guy over my cube/divider wall that uses the MX Blues I'm calling you out TOMMY BOY!!!

I love my HHKB. I'm planning on getting some hypersphere rings soon and am considering lubing when it's open, but I'm not sure. Are there any major downsides to living if you do it properly?

Why does HHKB make you want to sell your MX based boards? Tried going back to my Pok3r with Browns + DSA Dolch and can't stand it anymore. I'm actually slower when typing on the browns versus Topre.

topre is just too perfect its a weird thing

I type 90+ on my hhkb but on any other board it is around 70

what is that weird crap on esc?

lubed mine yesterday. feels nice.

When I've explored old threads about lubing the HHKB I see a lot of comments of people saying that It either didn't really change much, or took something away from the original feel in a negative way. I assumed this was because they didn't lube properly. Is there anyone here who has tried lubed and unlubed and prefers the the latter?

but 1 thing if you want to defile your hhkb you need to allign the conic springs real careful cause if you do it wrong you would get a spring noise that is really annoying and even more you could scratch the stem and make a scratchy hhkb just my advice

Also shouldn't be an issue, as you're placing the rings on the stems, rather than touching anything to do with the springs. I've had my board open probably 5-6 times on separate occasions, and honestly haven't even paid attention to the springs/domes, and it's been perfectly fine.

YMMV.

So today I made a decision to rip open my less than 1 moth old HHLB Pro 2 in black... I modified it a bit and swapped out the Yopre switches with Nova Touch switches. And I have to say for not knowing WTF I was doing I did a bang up JOB!!! All switches were swapped minus the Space bar, because the NT stabilizers did not fit like the Topre ones. Only thing that is a bit off obviously is the key caps themselves. Don't have the same dimension of keys.

Don't hate though! I left my Type S untouched!

Posted this on another thread, but I really wish I had a little information when I was trying to add these rings...

After using Hypersphere silencing rings for a full day’s work, I’d change my earlier judgment that it was too much work and that next time I’d just get a Type-S. I love having a dark charcoal case, and the acoustics of the mod are just so refined and satisfying.

And I genuinely admire Hypersphere’s dedication to craft a solution through numerous iterations and make it available to others. It would be great to see this option remain available for a long time. They're cheaper than a Type-S and you get the option of having a black case. And they sound fantastic without changing key travel and only improving feel and sound.

I flipped my spacebar a couple of days back... awesome stuff. Even better, though, is flipping the entire bottom row (to make it easier to rest my hands on it), and the Qwer/Asdf rows. So much more comfortable to type on, it's like my fingers are gliding over it.

I figured I could always buy another HHKB in black if need be. This way I can snag Artisans in MX instead of just Topre. Except Bros... I would need to modify the MX stems :(

Is it just me but I actually prefer the feels of the non-S over the Type-S.

The tactile feel and sponginess of bottoming out is missing by a touch.  Anyone else notice that too?

I'm not sure I'd ever want to flip any keys on the HHKB.  My Type-S looks so nice all symmetrical and stuff as it is.  I suppose if you were gaming on it or something, maybe it'd be more comfortable, but  I definitely didn't buy it to play games on.  I have others for that. :)

straight upgrade if you do it properly.
it's very hard, though. at least, from my experience.
i've tried thick and thin (lube), but even for the sliders i preferred thick lube. however.. too much of it will turn the stroke sluggy, too little will be a waste of time. there's a thin area in-between them, so you have to be consistent and precise to get what you want out of the lube.
the difference (between lubed and un-lubed) is not huge with Topre, but if you can pull it off then you have an extra +10% smoothness.

I am really curious about the Type-S now after having an HHKB for a week. A man doesn't need two HHKB's does he?

considered hypersphere rings? personally i've never tried them, but i've seen nothing but praise..

I just got the HHKB type S in the mail! Testing it at work. It is pretty silent minus the space bar, any recommendations on how to silence that bad boy?!

There is a product called Sugru that can silence your spacebar pretty well. It is a putty than can be shaped any way you want and then in 24 hours it dries and sticks to any surface and the result is silicone (https://sugru.com/about).

You put a little piece between sandwich wrap and roll it out thin, and place it on the circular landing pads on each side of the spacebar stem. You've got to let it dry for a day but it will make the spacebar much quieter. You can also try to find very thin self adhesive gripping dots, but they are usually a little too thick so they end up reducing spacebar travel.

Sounds muffled and the switch feels not as snappy as a normal one. Still a very good board though.

I sold my HHKB and bought a RF 87u 55g. Did I make a huge mistake? (I really did love my HHKB)

RF 87U is his big brother.
stronger, wiser, cooler, slicker, tougher.
it has everything its younger brother wants.

but the hhkb still has the same genes. he's good too.

Nope, huge mistake.  Realforce is like becoming an adult.  You realize you lost most of your whimsy and joy and now spend your days sitting on a rock hard chair trying to do work to continue to pay for your sad existence.
