I need to get in on this lubing. I also need to hypersphere the HHKB, i'd love to see how those two feel together, because they sound beautiful (in the lubed/sphered HHKB typing test videos i've seen)

I was pretty hesitant to mod my stock HHKB since I thought it was so perfect as is.  Boy was I wrong.  Your missing out if you haven't experienced hypersphere + lube, it completely changes the board for the better.  Its a night and day difference.  My HHKB is thocking awesome now.

That's obvious HHKB even silenced feels scratchy, i remember it did bother me
Lubing the housing rails may solve the problem although it feels a bit mushy under my fingers when i lubed it once
That's why i prefer silenced NT over HHKB, it feels smoother, well firmly
I don't get why everyone believe HHKB is perfect or superior Topre keyboard, its being far from the best feeling
I have both NT and HHKB silenced, lubed, i tend to prefer NT for having the most pleasant typing feeling and TKL layout
HHKB is superior for having better ergonomic shape, prettier aesthetic, disturbing but addicting layout

I understand exactly what you mean. Silenced NT is extremely smooth and consistent. And then after paying for a hhkb and then typing on it.. really makes you wonder about people.

That's because HHKB is more hyped than NT/RF
It looks more appealing
Don't get me wrong i love aswell my HHKB but keyboard is keyboard, the main factor would be a typing feeling
In this regard, NT feels like you said more consistent on my fingers
But not many people have both silenced keyboards, i only speak about silent mod

Thick PBT in OEM profile, neither the best nor the worst
I really want to try Ducky blank in OEM profile, its considered as the best for NT

I think some people prefer the HHKB for the barebones simplicity. When I used to run MX boards as my dailies, I was so preoccupied with caps and the different switch types that I almost stopped enjoying the experience of just typing. HHKB offers some simplicity in the crazy mech kb universe. If you want to run a stock experience, you will still have a top notch typing experience. And while you can still mod Topre with silence pads, lube some artisans, maybe a custom USB, it isn't enough to distract you from what drew you to mechs in the first place. The HHKB has brought me piece of mind! It is love and life!

Has anyone ever tried putting Topre HiPro keycaps onto an HHKB? I'm guessing they don't really fit properly onto standard Topre switch housings?

I think livingspeedbump did, but I may be mistaken. It would be on keychatter if so.

EDIT: NVM, he did it for a Realforce. I swear someone on here did though.

Don't hate on me bro! I just but the Type S innards into the black case. Now my white case has Nova Touch switches. And the space bar is comfy!

My 60% wood wrist rest from KB Paradise just came in. It fits the width of the HHKB really well and is a nice height too. It sits just below the lip of the keyboard and puts your hands at a good height. The wrest has a slight angle to it too so your wrists aren't digging into the edge. The finish on the wood doesn't irritate your hands after long sessions either, and looks pretty nice. I would really recommend it if you're looking for a good no frills HHKB wrest.

So I noticed on R/mk there was a post that Cooler Master EU has the Novatouch sliders for sale (an entire set). https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/47ph1g/hell_freezes_over_cooler_master_eu_offers_topre/

Anyone that has experience with swapping the stems- Do the Novatouch stems feel any different? I might be crazy, be I may recall some people saying that they're scratchier than the stock ones. If not though, this may be a must buy for me  :p

Works fine but not the larger keys if I remember correctly? Something about the stabs. Curious about the answer myself.

The stabs is fine for realforce but not with hhkb. Cause we need to drill the plastic case so that the novatouch stabs can fit inside hhkb.

It works with realforce cause the housing stems are interchangeable  :thumb:

Also lubbed the rail housing with Kritox, i must admit, feeling is not bad either
It feels more smooth, quieter, less rattle but in the opposite, its abit mushy
The damn thing, that's the ****ing inconsistence i ve got with HHKB, not all keys sound similar in term of feeling, i know why, some keys have more frictions than others although i silenced and lubbed
It might be caused by the silder itself, there is nothing i can do

i noticed my hhkb produces way, way less sound if i do not use the two tiny stands.
never noticed it before because i've always used the stands, but i don't think i'll ever go back to using them again. HEHE

Those feet that elevates the height of keyboard?

yeah, the feet to heighten the keyboard with.
if they are retracted, somehow the keyboard itself absorbs the shock of the presses. but if they are collapsed, i hear a loud low thump as if i just bash the keyboard against my desk.
it's actually a really big difference. who would've thought!

they're not really fragile, despite how they look. :-)
i had them up because i wasn't using a wrist-rest, and i had my wrists resting on my desk. glad i finally tried out a wrist-rest because i was messing up my wrists with that awkward position.
the board is a lot nicer with its feet down :D

Oh no.  I thought I had finally curbed my keyboard spending after landing on a 55g Type-S and 55g 23U combo.  I considered harvesting a Novatouch but decided it wouldn't be worth the money/effort, but being able to straight up buy a set of sliders for a reasonable price means it'll be really difficult to resist the call of the vast array of cherry keycap sets.  Someone might as well finish my wallet off and actually get a good looking metal HHKB case off the ground.

I prefer the ergonomic and the shape of HHKB, cant really type on NT because its flat although it feels nicer on my hands (lubed HHKB feels really good too)
Both are very pleasants keyboard but i will keep my HHKB (Hasu, silenced, lubed, PBT spacebar), almost the perfect keyboard now, i am lucky one  ;D

be on the lookout for anyone selling the barebones for a bit less than market price for normal NT. I purchased one at 135 and have already harvested some of the sliders for my HHKB (few posts above). To me, it's definitely worth it to be able to place other keycap sets although some mods give trouble.

Also, with the barebones you can also harvest the conical springs so I might do that for another board.

OK, so I just finished reading through most of this thread.

I bought a Type-S in the middle of February. Shortly after I could not use my laptop at work without the keyboard, so I've been bringing it back and forth with me every day.

I've since then bought a blank set of keys together with the PFU bag, and the red/blue Esc/Ctrl caps (haven't received it yet).

I've read somewhere (sorry, can't find the link/post) that there are cream caps as well as the white/grey ones. Is that true? Or are there only two colorways, black and white/grey?

I've since then bought a blank set of keys together with the PFU bag, and the red/blue Esc/Ctrl caps (haven't received it yet).

I've read somewhere (sorry, can't find the link/post) that there are cream caps as well as the white/grey ones. Is that true? Or are there only two colorways, black and white/grey?

Black (printed/blank) and white (printed/blank) were the only HHKB sets made.

RealForce sets (not that you can find any these days) will sort of fit, if you don't mind the wrong profile key on, er, right Shift I think.

Oh and Ducky with their new RealForce apparently has white white keycaps that might be whiter than the perhaps slightly off-white of the HHKB's natural keycaps, which would probably have the same fit on an HHKB as the RealForce sets.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
