Zowie celeritas and switch swap
« on: Sat, 19 October 2013, 07:20:54 »
Hi everybody.

I am sorry for my bad english, don't be afraid ...  ;)

I have a Zowie Celeritas Keyboard, and the "Q" key doesn't work anymore. I was playing and ... no response. No special sound or feeling.

I would like to know if it is possible to remove the switch of the board.
I have to play in LAN party in 2 weeks, so I can't send to RMA.

Possibility to do like this ?

Thank you very much ...

Serious.

Nope. That's only possible with PCB mounted switches (you would have known this if you read the description) although there are a handful of plates which support removing the switch top without desoldering (not commonly available).

You're going to have to get handy with some soldering to swap the switch.

Thank you :)

What do you think about this ?

RMA or try to swap by myself. I'm not a handyman, but if it's not too hard, why not ?

Thank you again.

Best plan..

Find a friend handy with soldering electronics... give them a candy bar... say  "Halp"...

It sounds like either the Switch itself is broken, in which case, you would have to swap the whole thing, including the bottom housing, which requires desoldering...

we CAN walk you through it over skype if you have a web cam or even just audio would do... but it would require $30 in tools...

Which is why I recommend you find a friend who already knows how to solder and owns the equipment....  This should be an easy fix for him, if the problem is physical...

By physical, I mean if the switch is bad, swap the switch.. If a Trace is broken.. you sand the pcb, and expose some copper, and solder to the copper...

Or find some friend,, with a DAD who's an engineer... He should be able to fix this no problem.
