The term E-Sports needs to go away forever. It's not a sport. It's not even in the same realm as sport. Anything competitive does not make it a sport. Athletes train - progamers practice. Stop calling it a ****ing sport. It is not a sport.
But, but... pro E-Sports peoples wear team jackets. I want to wear a team jacket. Or a team shirt idk

I'm wearing a Voodoo Doughnuts shirt, doesn't make doughnut eating a sport.
Oh - guess I should follow up with: "Competitive eating is not a sport."

There are arguments to be made that (1) there's a physical aspect to pro-level gaming that makes it more like traditional sports than people typically realize, and also (2) that not everything categorized as "sports" is necessarily physical. I never liked the term anyway though. Prefixing "e-" in front of anything other than email feels laughably old fashioned. "Professional Gaming" is much classier.

Are the Untucked any good?

Yeah they're fun. Mostly the Untucked episodes rehash the drama from the main series, but some of the best shade happens there too, which, is like the whole reason for watching the show in the first place.  :))

100% agree, I play csgo all the time but I am so dam tired of these dam kids saying esports is a legit sport. It is not a dam sport!! I am a marathon runner and I puke every time I hear "esports", they gotta cut that out. The only thing "esports" players do is condition their asses to be comfortable on their seat to burn the least amount of calories while downing monster energy drinks.

Well...  that's the same thing as gay-marriage...   marriage HAS TO BE boy and a girl..

You're argument is with TERMINOLOGY....   and you feel that some how, calling esport--- a sport,  diminishes what YOU DO,  in terms of a physical - sport..

Ultimately it's irrelevant...  and if enough people play dota, and enough people watch dota, and enough people PAY FOR DOTA..  heck, you could argue today DOTA or LEAGUE of Legend is the largest sport practiced in existence..

They add the e at the beginning to separate itself and to show its for electronics and I do agree it's not a sport but to say it should go away is a lil ignorant to its gaining popularity, there's lots of money getting involved and I think these e-sportsman don't care what u say when they get 200k and a trophy for winning a game and everyone else has to work hard for money.

I'm sure most ppl would prefer getting good at a video game to win money over say roofing or working at a mill, I watch esports myself, now getting superbly good at a video game is hard and all, but it's a lot less tiring a than almost all other jobs

Nothing like a strawman argument that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject at hand, but is instead designed to create an inflammatory distraction from the original topic to state an unfair comparative point.

You do realize how much work goes into being a pro, right?  While I think the whole idea of calling it sports and calling the people athletes is ridiculous and there is little to no physical component, there is a **** ton of work that goes into getting good.  You have to research maps, try to find new strategies, learn how your teammates will react and their verbal shorthand, how each gun/character/whatever handles.  Just like football teams have game plans and draw up plays, so too do e-sports teams.  It's not uncommon for them to work ten hour days while practicing and 14 hour days while gearing up for a tourney.  While that may not be exhausting your muscles, it is mentally draining.

Most esports pros are dedicated professionals who put just as much time into their game as JJ Watt.  To call it an easy job really is naive.  And this is coming from someone who thinks the whole concept that you can get paid for playing a video game is ridiculous.

Exaggeration can prove your feelings to a certain topic or thing but in reality it really isn't that bad as to one to forty, but it's still pretty bad as one to four is kinda an entire team of five, which is usually the number for vsing games like cs go and dota and stuff

Sigh, yeah I would rather play a video game professionally. Retail can be fun sometimes, but kicking butt in a game while people cheer sounds like a new level of fun.

I used to be into competitive tf2 and it was fun I gotta say, and easier than jobs, and my dad worked in a mill for about 33 years and he's told me almost everything he knows, I'd choose esports over a normal job anyday lmao

It does take a lot of work to get that good, and I'm not going to say anything about what they're paid because I'll just sound like some jealous prick, but they are not athletes.

Another one of my hobbies is competitively speed solving Rubik's Cubes, and there is often a lot of debate about whether or not that is a sport too (within the community, that is), and in any sort of argument about what is and isn't a sport really comes down to finding a definition that matches your argument, and there are already so many different definitions, so the argument never really ever ends.

I think there should be two "categories" for sports: classical sports and mental sports. I think it's really ridiculous to compare a sprinter or a professional hockey player to someone who plays chess and someone who plays video games competitively. Both require great skill, but they are very, very different.

a lil ignorant

they get 200k and a trophy for winning a game and everyone else has to work hard for money.

Quoting for irony. Bringing home that kind of prize money takes an insane amount of work.
I'm sure most ppl would prefer getting good at a video game to win money over say roofing or working at a mill, I watch esports myself, now getting superbly good at a video game is hard and all, but it's a lot less tiring a than almost all other jobs

Never said it was easy, I get they spend a tonne of time doing stuff like that but u gotta realize that's it's easier to put hours into a game compared to hours into a physical activity

So in other words you never worked a day in your life and you never dedicated 100% of your time to a professional team to practice and enter tournaments. You're just making assumptions.

But..... what about golf then?
I went out golfing with people from work (it was a "funtivity", I would never voluntarily hang out playing golf with these people). The next day  I thought I was gonna die my arms were so sore.

And you'll get carpal tunnel from playing esports.
Whatever.
I'm just trying to point out the fact that the argument that playing video games can't be a sport because it's not physically strenuous it extremely relative.

Everything is physically strenuous.
If I pick up a pencil, that's physical exertion.

Golf has less physical exertion than something like basketball.

So when does the physical exertion become enough to warrant it being a sport?

I really don't care about this argument though, lol. I'm just stirring the pot per usual.

Why can't everyone just play whatever "sport" they want?
Everyone is so obsessed with putting things into categories.

Don't worry. I'm not a bobo.

Also, I can't believe your work has "funtivities" hahaha.
That sounds annoying yet really cool at the same time.

This is a good point. Mind you the argument is not about the fun level of a job making it not seem like work - if you love what you do it won't seem like you are working, and simply because a ton of folks sit at home and get good in their free time should not be the biases of a counterpoint about the usage of the word sports.

For my two cents, I will add that I helped my family many years in their contracting business, and most of it was construction. For one summer it was my only job.

For a few years after that summer I balanced that on the weekends and office work during the week. While the office work sometimes was tedious, I preferred working that for five days than the construction during the weekends.

There's a reason many people in the past would have slaves do the manual labor. :(

the argument here is professional gaming is not a sport. I never said it doesn't take a lot of work or dedication. I respect what they do, I mean good for them they found exactly what they are good at and are making dough. I'm jealous that I still haven't found my calling.

I just believe the word sport should not be related to video games but they are Professionals, experts, gifted, ect. at playing video games.

I did dedicate 100% of my time into a team and practice for about 6 months and I can't get a normal job because of my cancer otherwise I would be working at this very instance.

"SportAccord is the umbrella organisation for all (Olympic and non-Olympic) international sports federations

SportAccord uses five categories for its member federations' sports, many of which fall into more than one category:

Primarily physical (e.g. rugby or athletics)
Primarily mind (e.g. chess or go)
Primarily motorised (e.g. Formula One or powerboating)
Primarily coordination (e.g. billiards)
Primarily animal-supported (e.g. equestrianism)"

And the one that always gets brought up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_IOC_Recognised_International_Sports_Federations
Chess, bridge, and billiards

I wouldn't call them "athletes" still, because that implies some sort of physical activity.

I agree that is shouldn't really be called a sport, although one of the last definitions for the word does describe it as a "diversion; recreation; pleasant pastime."

Can math be a sport?
I like math.

Math is the only "sport" I successfully competed in. I say it's a sport (since the brain is indeed a muscle!).

Agian. you guys are arguing about WORDS..   because these categories are all arbitrary.

We arbitrarily designate one set of actions to one term..

Because it's all arbitrary to begin with.. Each generation of people will continue to change and modify the accepted term of the Time..

You guys are fighting the dictionary, is my point..
