Some people don't want to take the extra risk of shipping it over seas.

yeah, if the seller does everything right and the package gets lost it's not the seller's fault.

Sellers like to think it is. Buyers like to think it's still the seller's responsibility until they get it. This discussion has been had before, but I still don't get why people can't just go to the PO.

yeah people claim that it's also intimidating and more of a hassle, but like come on. I asked the post office people how to ship the package the fastest and quickest way, and also asked the buyer for advice the first time i shipped internationally. it was all smooth sailing from there.

Hmm, to be honest, it should 'always' be the buyers responsibility, once the seller has done his/her due diligence (correct packaging etc.) then it's in the hands of the postal system. Anyhow if the discussion has already been had....:D

Sellers like to think it is.

Buyers like to think it's still the seller's responsibility until they get it.

This is the crux of the matter. As a seller, I feel like I am done when it crosses the counter at the PO because it is then utterly out of my control forever.

Buyers expect sellers to do *whatever* to make them *whole* even though the *problem* was completely out of the seller's hands.

Box stolen off the buyer's porch? Seller should give refund.

Mail truck ran over box and damaged item? Seller should give refund.

Perfectly good item received but buyer claims it is defective? Seller should give refund.

Are you ****ing kidding me?

It pains me to not sell internationally, because those markets are often much better than US, but the risks are far greater.

Ultimately, if you have proof of purchase, and you have provided the correct amount of insurance on the package, take pictures of it when it is being sent if it is high value etcetcetc, all things like that should be a conversation between the buyer and the postal service.

Shipping INTL is a separate conversation, but made more complicated if you don't ship with a dedicated courier. If you decide to ship with regional post, then it increases the risk of screw ups with the handover between nations postal services and whatever else.

I think if someone is willing to fork out more for FedEx/UPS/DHL or whatever, then it shouldn't be an issue.

The problem then is that the courier service charges 4x what the post charges, for the same parcel. Plus they collect fees from the buyer that the buyer usually doesn't want to pay.

When shipping intl, I never send anything First Class. Priority Mail is the minimum, and Priority Mail Express (EMS) is better.

Yeah, true, but at least you know you are getting consistency if you ship with an INTL dedicated courier. I didn't know they collected other fees though?

I've heard a few people say that UPS collects a 'courier fee' upon delivery, in addition to customs taxes.

A package that cost me $50 to send via Priority Mail overseas would cost over $200 to ship via FedEx or UPS. It's hard enough to make a buyer understand that actual postage costs $50 or more.

OK, that's a lot. Unless I was buying something like a Kustom, I wouldn't pay that much.

A cicada just started up right outside my window.

They are loud little fsckers.

CBF to go out and squish it 'cause it's been raining and everything's wet, on a hot day so it's humid too, and the mozzies'll be out and about.

I'm just hoping it shuts up before bed time.

Edit: Ok, it's stopped now.  Smeg those thing are loud - my ears are ringing in the silence!

"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I live in a Luxury Development with Stunning Water Views. We have our own private swimming pool for residents. Today someone stole my wife's shoes from the ladies changing room there. A pair of ****ing H&M trainers.
This country is inhabited by barbarians.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

It is unbelievable that insects can make that kind of sound with organic appendages not much larger than a fingernail, when modern technology has to employ a lot of components in a speaker.

By the way, did you get those big speakers working?

TL;DR: I had a crazy Thanksgiving weekend that ended very poorly for me. Long story short, engine in my car seized so now I need a new car. Will likely be putting some things up for sale/auction within the coming days to supplement my income.

Full story:

So it started with 911 being called on our Thanksgiving festivities. One of the guests, an elderly family friend, said he was feeling faint and thought he was going to lose consciousness, and to call an ambulance. He was checked out at the hospital and all was well; they said he "ate too much pie". He returned from the hospital several hours later, and the remainder of the evening went well.

Then on Friday, things got really bad. I was driving around with my cousin on the back-roads of a small town in northern MA. Dirt roads, in the middle of the woods. The car must have bottomed out at one point, as there was a massive hole in the oil pan. I didn't even realize anything was wrong, as I didn't really hear the car bottom out. I turned the engine off as soon as I saw my oil light come on, but it wasn't soon enough apparently. Got my car towed to my uncles house, replaced the oil pan, go to start it up and the engine was knocking horribly. The timing chain slipped when it lost oil pressure, so the engine was pretty much toast. It seized up shortly after, and now my car is sitting at my uncle's house, completely worthless. And so was the adventure of my Thanksgiving weekend.

Needless to say, I am bothered.

Got into a car accident yesterday. Everyone was fine; no one had to go the hospital. This morning I started feeling all the bruises I didn't know I had, and my neck is killing me.

Other than that, nothing else is bothering me. Had a great Thanksgiving otherwise and ended up seeing more family than we thought we would.

Believe it or not, I can totally relate to this. I had the exact same thing happen to my car the day after Christmas in 2005, only difference is that I was in eastern MA. Timing chain skipped and bye-bye car. It is stressful as hell needing to make a big expense any time of year, but around holidays it is just that much worse. Hopefully you can get at least a few hundred from your car at a junk yard. I think I got $600 for mine and it was a total clunker (obviously).

At least your family friend turned out to be okay!

Glad to hear everyone was fine, car crashes is definitely a shocking and scary experience. Cars are temporary, family is not so be safe out there. :thumb:

Damn, just received word that a co-worker has passed. I'm crushed by this. He was/is a great  dude that will be missed.

Today is going to drag.

Sorry to hear that, man. That's rough...

Thanks bro. There is a dark cloud over our office right now without a doubt. It's probably going to take a few weeks for everyone to get back to "normal".

Sorry to hear about your car. Glad everyone is okay. :)
