Why are there no thick PBT Blank Black Keycaps?

It seems to me that everyone is looking for Blank Black PBT keycaps, but have failed to find even a hint of them anywhere. You would think that with such a demand, it would be the most common keycap you could buy. I can find rainbow PBT keys before I can find Black PBT keys. Why are they so rare? What makes them so hard to get? It seems to me that every keycap distributor should be selling Blank Black PBT keycaps out the wazoo.

Hmm. these seem to be very small sets. I'm looking to fill my entire Quickfire Rapid with blank black keys. Should I be specifically buying an 86/104 key set or would I be able to get by with getting say 2 50 key sets?

First link has more keys than you need. The second one you have to pick base set + modifiers.

Thanks! That first set looks to be exactly what I want (I miss-took it as a 56-key set). I won't be buying the keys for about a month or two though, so maybe as the holidays get closer, distributors will stock up on some Blank Black PBT's and I'll have more options.

I've asked about a printed thick PBT black cherry profile recently and got this..

Imsto - no such key set yet.

Feng - They don't have thick PBT 104-keyset in black for sale so far, but I think they might make them in the future.

I couldnt get any other details other than that.

Hopefully a group buy will pop up or Feng will just start selling them. I have two of Fengs sets on other boards and they are so nice
to me it'll be worth just waiting for a black set to come around.

Fengs sets are awesome! I bought a set of thick white blank pbt caps from him, and they are just great. I would literally kill for a set of blacks the same quality!

Amazing some of the most sought after type of keys aren't available. I was gonna go for the blank black POM group buy, but that fizzled out.

IvanIvanovich -  still want to try it but I don't know when it will be. Need to try and see if can arrange something with the factory for reasonable quantity, not 10,000 sets :rolleyes:

All the thick PBT 104 sets go for $95 on ebay, a littttllee cheaper for blanks. So anything less is bonus, but the fact you cant get black and through this you can is  :thumb:

I'm in for a set, two if there is going to be a blank and not blank.

Any chance of a 1.75x right shift for these black caps? Being able to use a pure style layout with thick cherry PBTs on the gh60 would be nice.

Blank set $55, printed set $75. As before same 104 set with 1.25 mods and additional stepped caps lock. ISO enter, 1.75 shift, 1.5 mod and 7 spacebar is NOT available.

Sorry but only 104 ANSI. The way they have the keys grouped in their molds make them extremely inflexible as they are unwilling to over run lots of keys to do other set packaging.

After 8 months of waiting, still nowehre you can buy pbt blank black dcs keys.. omg so many vendor are wasting the opportunity to sell a lot...

Poker ii is DCS isn't it? If so that keyset is thick (1.5mm)

(if it's not DCS is it OEM? and if so what's the difference?)

poker 2 is OEM unless the internets have been lying to me

thickness technically has nothing to do with profile.  it just happens that we don't hav every permutation of thickness and profile.  eg cherry profile keycaps are thick

Y, OEM and Cherry profile are not shown on that chart, it only shows SP's own profiles. Poker II is OEM, thick PBT. Cherry profile is very similar to DCS, but with flatter angle on the bottom 2 rows. I find Cherry profile preferable to type on, the angle of DCS bottom rows is a bit irritating to me.

I ordered some sets from Ivan's Group Buy and also his latest GMK one, both Cherry profile and thick. Can't wait to get the caps. The black PBT one is waiting for a production slot, the GMK Dolch is invoiced and should move to production after the 15th if all goes to plan.  :D

I think that maybe there will be Leopold-branded thick PBT caps that are blank and black.
So far I have seen black printed, black side-printed and navy blue blanks.

The profile is practically indistinguishable to Cherry's. The packs do apparently come with a 6.25 universal space bar that will fit other non-Leopold keyboards as well.
