That moment when you love your mech!
« on: Wed, 18 December 2013, 20:00:21 »

I just had that moment where I was typing the most mundane work email but on this cherry black/pbt cap 60% KB pure and I thought to myself.  GAWD, I LOVE MY MECH! :)  Anyone else have this experience?  This make me lugging my mech around from work/home SO worth it! :D

Grant it. it's a 60 so it's no big deal.  But when I'm in that buckling spring mood, it's awful carrying that giant Unicomp on the train.

:)) at the photo of computer keyboard with a real piano bearing piano keys. It is ironic how keyboardist and pianoist are fairly alike. Thin fingers and able to press on keys that are usually big enough for fingers to tap away on. Maybe we should start calling ourselves the musicians of the electronic realm?  :p

I was joking with HaaTa awhile ago about HaaTa's idea of "floating palm" and how I joked that it resembles to how real pianoists pressing piano keys with their palms floating/levitating. Indeed I guess in some retrospecs keyboardists and pianoist are fairly similar. ;D *goes to play some piano music speaking of which..*

*ahem* jokes aside with similarities of two somewhat completely different worlds.. I think now that I have gotten used to the two very different mechanical keyboards I don't think I will ever be able to go back to rubber domes easily. Now if only other public avenues for instance could offer USB keyboards be plugged in when one uses the said computer that would be extra nice. Though at the same time I don't think such is a likely scenario when people often worry too much about viruses/keyloggers and all that jazz.

Rowdy makes a note to thoroughly clean any keyboard equipment he acquires from Tony.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

This is interesting. I have had many of such feelings when using my 20-year old Acer Alps. At times as I was chatting in a chatroom or typing an email, I would get this burst of fondness for the keyboard I am typing. This keyboard is now in the hands of someone who would appreciate Alps more than me.

At times, I missed the old buckling spring keyboard in my first job - coding on the IBM mainframe.

But I have had other keyboard since then - Code MX Clears, Matias Quiet Pro and HHKB and I have not had a single moment where I said "gawd, I love <Code or MQP or HHKB>"! It's very, very ironic to me!

but ya, ALL THE FREAKING TIME.  I'll just randomly keep on typing after the last line of my email/note just to hear and feel the swtiches working.  then I remember to hit ctrlz before sending lol.

Happens every time when I use a different keyboard.

As soon as I start seeing the slashes roll in ( \\\\\\\\\\\ ), reminds me that I'm not on my keyboard :(

Mine was very recent, actually, when I got my HHKB Pro 2. I had been using an MX blue switch for some time, specifically a Das Keyboard with PBT key caps, and it had pleased my but never really blown me away. When I first started to try typing on the HHKB I was taken aback. Something about that thock, the PBT texture, and the minimal movement of my hands over the board just put me in a state of elation. Not to mention, having a great interest in aesthetics in all things including keyboards, how happy it makes me to see such a pretty keyboard on my desk. Now, on to filling the top row with topre clacks.  :D

Unfortunately, not. Can't take MX Blues there and I'm still waiting for HHKB. If topre switches turn out to be good I'll get another HHKB for work, if not then I'll have to go for reds, probably.

Damn ergodox

Jelly?

I think it's be-yootiful.

I have a Genius rubber dome 104 key I am still very fond of. I wrote a LOT of code with it, spilt juice on it and generally abused it and it just kept coming back for more. I got so familiar with it, was faster on it than all my other boards. Sadly it's in a different country now, but at least I have my ergo mechanical board to comfort me.

When I first used a mechanical keyboard, I did not know it was mechanical and I did not like it (my roommate's Cherry MX black Steelseries, back in 2005 or whatever). Later I got interested in it and tried lighter switches. When I got my first board (Cherry MX reds) I did not like them right away, and felt kind of indifferent towards them. During that Christmas period, I had to do a lot of work and did it from home on that keyboard. It was only after I got back to the office, where I was back to my old rubber dome work keyboard, that I suddenly understood, and I was like "Ohhhhh". After that I have always been a big fan of mechanical keyboards, even though I do not use reds any more.

where I was back to my old rubber dome work keyboard,

Any time that I have used a garbage keyboard and come back to the real thing.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.

Just got a small bag.  Hopefully I can now use this to lug my keyboard around to work safely! :D  Yeah.  I'm beginning to realize just how important keyboards are.

If you think about it, in the modern world, we "touch" the internet with your keyboard.  monitor (eyes) Speakers (ear) Keyboard (fingers)  :D wow! this is kinda profound, don't you think? heh!  maybe I'm overreaching!

I think this is kinda awesome!

I felt that special keylation the first time I typed on IBM BS keyboard 30 some years ago. I also felt it first time typing on Leopold FC660C.  A great keyboard makes the typing experience flow.
