Is the TEX Acrylic CNC case worth getting?
« on: Thu, 17 July 2014, 10:53:17 »
Im in for a grey with white LED poker 2 and I was curious if anyone recommended the case thats also on massdrop atm? I mean I have white LEDs so it wont look amazing but is it that much better than the default case to warrant the purchase? And or does the white board look a billion times better?

I have one and it's pretty light, even lighter than I expected.  Have not put a full board in it yet.

It looks very cool with the backlight glow (frosted was a good choice over full trans), and the price isn't that bad.  But I leave my lights off so I might just paint over this one...Dunno what paint to use on acryllic.

I might pick up a second for the board I'm making to gift away.

How easily does it scratch/acquire dirt?

Someone mentioned, it's the same weight as the default case?

What's the process to switch this for the default case?
I typed this post on my Slanck. I also developed a stronger, cleaner, easier handwiring method.

I have one and am using it right now.

Its okay, but its one of the cheaper poker cases you're going to find right now.

( all these are in my opinion )
pros
- looks
- solid one piece of acrylic
- cheaper than a full aluminium case
- low profile
- high quality CNC work

cons
- flexes
- acrylic prone to scratches/cracks/chipping
- super light
- does not come with a cable like the TEX alum. cases do.
- screws screw directly into the acrylic, so there is a chance you could crack the screw mounts if you over tighten them, or possibly strip the hole out. ( which has been documented already )
- dust/dirt show very easily on it.

I love my TEX alum. case way more than the acrylic one, but its half the price, so.. is a few compromises worth saving $50? thats your call.

LED's don't really affect the board to much, since the top of the case sits flush with the plate of the keyboard.
To swap it, you unscrew the 5 screws holding your poker2 into its stock case, and then place the keyboard into the new case, and screw the screws back in. pretty simple.

and IMO, the white poker looks so much better than the dark grey
