I can type faster on a macbook keyboard than with my mechs :'(

Okay I am having an issue that is seriously bugging me.
I have been a long time mac user almost about 6 years and currently own a rmpb 13 & 15.
I believe I have become too accustom to touch typing with the mac chicklet keyboard. I do about 65wpm.

This year I built my own computer rig in February.https://pcpartpicker.com/b/W4K8TW
Along with that rig I bought a poseidon mx brown.
However when I tried typing on my poseidon with mx brown I can't type as great as on the chicklet. I average about 45-55wpm.

I recently bought a race 2 with browns and I do just the same with as I did with the poseidon.
I also got poker 2 with blues but god I am horrible on the blues. I do about 45wpm.
I been practicing but this is getting crazy I can't improve.

What do you guys use to practice? Am I screwed?will I never get use to my mechs? this is making me sad.

EDIT: I just tried on a HP KU0841 membrane keyboard and I did 54 wpm HAHAHA

Who cares man, mechanical life is not about WPM, it's about enjoying your desktop experience. It's about keyboard sights, sounds and switch feel!

Chiclet will always be faster because of the reduced travel, but it will never replace the experience of typing on cherry switches.

I probably type just as fast on my aluminum bluetooth keyboard as I do on my mechs. I don't care. Like Lastpilot said, I'm doing these because I spend a lot of time on a computer and I like mech boards from a hobby standpoint and a feel standpoint. I never thought I would pick up extra words per minute.

Also, if you're losing some, it's probably partially from familiarity and the throw on the keys. Maybe try some o-rings on your boards?

The Mechs are great and they feel great its a dream to type on however I don't like the fact that I keep messing up.

Well I use my rig more than my mac and I still haven't gotten accustom to the higher keys and tactile bumps.
I even plan on selling my 15rmbp mac for another 780ti since I don't use it anymore.

Yeah, I've tried o-rings before and they definitely get you into the rubber-dome-travel realm. If WPM is an issue you may want to try that out. Just know that most people I know who have purchased o-rings no longer use them, mainly because of just that; it sort of makes the cherry experience into a rubber-dome experience.

Sounds like your just stuck around 50-60 wpm at the moment.  Soon enough, with practice, you will be doing 65 on anything and think it's easy.  Then after more practice you'll be in the 70's and think 60 was slow.  This just continues.

If you start slowly with minimal force to actuation, followed by lifting off immediately, you can reduce your travel without o rings, relax your fingers and hands (and increase accuracy IMO).

It seems likely that you are more used to whatever keyboard you have been using for years. As you use a peripheral for a long time, you acquire the muscle memory and overall familiarity with it that allows you to use it with ease.

Some of that might be what is happening here.

I would not worry about it, and like others have said, using a mechanical keyboard is not about making you a faster typist as some incorrectly assume. Just use something that feels good and satisfying to use, and I have little doubt you will be up to regular typing speeds in no time.

I'm buying keyboards because they're cool and I been practicing I got about 55-60wpm with blues!  the problem was hand positioning I guess my hands need to be more extended because I use my mac about arms length away.

It's all based on what you're used to. I much prefer the experience of using the mech boards though. I find I can type for longer without feeling fatigued, and I enjoy using the computer much more than I did with even a nice rubber dome.

I never knew how great a keyboard could feel I greatly enjoy my browsing experience and productivity. I already upgraded to two 1440p and a great mouse zowei fk1 all I needed was an awesome keyboard.
I know I'm not the fastest typer but I want to be around 70-80 wpm with any keyboard.

confession, the number below was done on the POS dell kb at work. I think I'm around 80wpm on my browns/clears.

edit: just ran the same test...at 90 with a bunch of errors, must be because I'm used to it now, I'd say still 10% slower than membrane/chiclet.

Hmm, my experiences seem to be quite different from other people here. It seems that I type equally fast/slow regardless of the keyboard I use (given a little time to get used to it). I have tried 10fastfingers multiple times per keyboard on rubber dome, cherry MX brown, Matias alps, and topre (45g and variable) and with every keyboard I am between 70 and 80 somewhere. With a spike above 80 every once in a wile, and sometimes below 70 if there are words with a lot of V's and B's in it  . My accuracy also stays similar, it is close to 100% with almost no misspelled words.

I enjoy my over priced piece of junk  . Its just the same concept as buying a mech keyboard whats wrong with a normal 5$ membrane keyboard. the same can be done  but we still buy it
