HHKB Pro2 typing lag
« on: Tue, 04 November 2014, 15:00:53 »
Hi, I noticed that when typing fast or when start off a application (e.g. Web browser like Chrome) and starting typing in any text input areas, there is a noticeable lag, sometimes it is even worse that the first few keystrokes did not get registered, as I saw no chars shown, it is sometimes also the case when like typing passwords. But hereafter, it is working fine. I don't know if anyone else experienced the same issue. I am wondering is it possible to remedy the situation or even solve the problem. I am on Windows.

cheers

This doesn't sound like a problem with the board itself. Sounds like you might be having some performance issues with your PC. Is the hard drive cranking away when this is happening? What about cpu or memory usage?

The CPU and memory usage is really low, and I am using SSD, so the hard drive shouldn't really be cranking away.

then there would seem to be some other issue with the computer here. What you're describing is totally a symptom of the computer lagging in receiving keystrokes, rather than the keyboard taking its sweet time to send the keystrokes to the computer.

In those cases it's likely some lag spike from the process of launching an app, especially it's a heavier one. I would occasionally get this on my older Macbook, but only if doing too many things at once or if the computer is too hot.

The only time I noticed something like that is after I wake up my computer with a keypress on the HHKB.  I cannot type in the password field first try.

But if I use the mouse to wake the computer, I can type in the password field.

what key do you press to wake it up? I always go for ctrl just in case. I think sometimes it also doesn't catch the first keypress after wakeup.

Usually space or Shift.

No keypresses worked until, IIRC, I pressed Return, then it would indicate an invalid password (because the field was blank, the first keypress recognised was Return).

The second attempt was successful - all key strokes were recognised.

One of the DIP switches changed that behaviour slightly, but caused other problems for me, so I just left it as it is, and use the mouse to wake the computer now.

Maybe you have a slow usb port? =O

I'm not sure what would cause that to change though. Does it work on different usb ports? Or do all of them have the same symptoms?

Yes, that must be it, the usb port's challenged, and or has been drinking... HAHAHAHHAHA

but this sounds way more like a software issue..

OP did you try that keyboard in other computers ?
