Shivering?
« on: Fri, 07 November 2014, 13:48:15 »
Last night I woke up in the middle of the night to piss, and when I got outta bed my body began shivering violently and uncontrollably. Weird thing was, it wasn't cold in my home at all. After peeing I went back under the covers to warm up but it didn't really help since I wasn't actually cold. After about 5 minutes it stopped as I relaxed back into sleep.

Any idea what that was, or has anyone experienced anything like this before?

I've never experienced anything like that, but I have shivered rather intensely from anxiety as a youth.

thats a sign of a billion diferent things

-overusing stimulants: excessive caffeine, cocaine, adderal
-low blood sugar for certain individuals.
-PMS
-fever
-more severe issues like having a mild stroke

be safe.
its hard to diagnose things over the internet so take everything with a hefty grain of salt.

Well, I can rule some of those out. Not sure what a stroke feels like, but I'm only 30 and not in atrocious shape so that's pretty unlikely. Someone said it could be a sign of an internal infection but how would you tell?

TBH i have zero idea.

i would keep an eye on it, if its happening more then it might be wise to go see a doctor or whatever you have access to.
its really hard to make these calls when a symptom can mean almost anything

if it was an internal infection i would say probably look up other signs of internal infection and keep an eye out for those

This happens when you wake up abruptly from deep sleep..

essentially your body has not fully rebooted.. and the muscle control has not fully been reestablished.

Honestly I wouldn't put much thought into it unless it keeps happening or you notice something else out of the ordinary.  The body does some strange things when you are tired.

It's probably nothing. But if you think it could be something, ask a doc about it.

Get yourself a thermometer and take a reading again if this happens again.

Chances are you got up too suddenly, after having a nightmare, causing your blood pressure to drop suddenly making blood to go to your heart in response. Then less blood is on the periphery of your body (skin) so you felt cold.

I get this all the time. I have low blood pressure too. getting up to quick with low BP isn't always a workable plan.

Sadly there's much more info online for lowering your BP than raising it.

You mean "need moar Acetylcholine or w/e ?"

if it was from sleeping, it might be a pinched nerve.  not a pain nerve that you would notice, temperature nerves don't cause a noticable feeling.

metabotropic GABAB and  ionotropic GABAA/glycine

basically.. your body needs to clean this stuff off before you can MOVE.. those 2 chem are responsible for sleep paralysis

So, it is POSSIBLE to wake up other sections of your brain prior to having enough time to clear everything..

Essentially, it's like turning your computer back on from sleep state, but because you use a mechanical harddrive, it takes some time to spin up..

This phenomenon doesn't usually affect people unless they're prone to disturbed sleep..

Very similar to this is lucid dreaming.. brain functioning in semi-awake states.
